Lake Lugano Hotel
Several years ago we stayed at a hotel, Fischer's Seehotel (I think), in Castagnola on Lake Lugano in Switzerland. It was rustic and tiny and sort of leaned out over the lake. We had a great dinner on their terrace and enjoyed walking along a footpath to Gandria. We are thinking about returning to this area next year and would like to stay there again. They don't seem to have a web site. If anyone has been there recently could you give me an up date?

Thanks
Good afternoon, Betsy
Lugano hotels can be found on www.swisshotels.ch and www.hotelguide.ch/
www.ticinoinfo.ch/
www.ticinonline.ch/
www.lugano-tourism.ch/
Have a good trip, really love that
area. Richard of La Grange Park, IL>

Thanks for your reply, Richard. I love that area too. Palm trees in Switzerland? Yep!

I've copied your sites and will explore them. We hope to get back to that area in October 2001.

You might also consider staying in Lake Como, Italy. It is only a very short drive and will give you a different ecperience, and you could do Lugano as day trip and also do Bellagio, etc. Love that lake country and that area where Italy and Switzerland join up.

Hello Betsy and Me! Might you be able to give me an update? The combination of Lugano and Como is exactly what I'd like to try. I'm wondering how easy it would be to stay at Betsy's Fischer's and make excursions to Como? If I travel to Menaggio, can I do all of my visiting to the Como lake towns by boat? Is there a boat pass? While we're sharing positive responses to the Italian lakes and southern Switzerland, let me put in my vote for Lago Maggiore, where I've enjoyed the little Swiss village of Gerra Gambarogno.

The best answer is the charming hotel Stella d' Italia in San Mamete--halfway between Lugano and Mennagio. The Ortelli family are wonderful hosts, and the ferry boat from Lugano stops at their dock--hard to beat.

Had to laugh when I saw this message had been topped. Today's Google search turned up the following for Fischer's Seehotel: http://interhotel.com/switzerland/en/hoteles/25411.html Unfortunately, there's no photo, but the basic info is there. It was definitely a great little place to stay. We were viewing slides of that trip (1987) a few weeks ago, and the shots taken around this little hotel made me smile. We haven't returned because we've opted to explore previously unvisited areas of Europe.

Will leave the trip planning details to those who know more about the area than I, jw. If you decide to go to Fischer's, please post a trip report when you return.

Hello again, Betsy. It will be quite a while before I can return to Ticino. However I did find a tiny photograph of Fischer's at the ticino-tourism.ch site. It was included under hotels at Castagnola and it mentions a fax number but no e-mail address. You'll probably get there before I do, so please let us know if it lived up to your memories. I admired it from the lake boat on the way to Gandria.

Hi jw

Thanks for the info. I've bookmarked the site:
http://www.ticino-tourism.ch/control...true&toobSeq=0
We had one of the lake side rooms with a balcony that was larger than the room. Our October 2001 trip is not taking us that far north, so we'll have to plan to return another time.
