Stonegarth B&B was perfect, we had a huge room at the front upstairs. Easy 5 minute walk into town, we walked to the theatre.

We stayed at this B&B in Grange in Borrowdale.

About five miles from Keswick is a small village. There is a restaurant which we did not visit, but there are many places nearby. The owners were a wealth of information about walks in the area, providing us with detailed directions and maps. Breakfast was cooked to order and plentiful. It is in your price range and I would highly recommend it. I wrote a review on Tripadvisor.

Well didn't I get a surprise when this surfaced after 3 years! We did stay at the Lookout in Keswick and it was fabulous.

I'd pencil Keswick into your base if looking for a town large enough to have amenities like supermarkets and ordinary stores as well as cozy pubs, etc. And also check out the Pencil Museum - the graphite pencil I think may have been invented or popularized here -http://www.pencilmuseum.co.uk/

Yeh I tend to look at only the most recent posts - so I'm three years late and three quid short - still though these discussions are of such a general interest nature that it does not hurt to revive these threads.
