Lake Constance
I would like to go to Lake Constance. Is there any suggestions of a place to stay around the lake? Suggestions of anywhere on the German, Austrian, or Swiss side would be welcome. Thank You!

A lot of folks seem to like the area around Lindau

We love Meersburg. Do not forget to visit Mainau Island (it is a 10 minutes trip by boat from Meersburg there).

I agree with Adrian45, take a look at Meersburg, here is a link to their website:
www.meersburg.de just click on the British flag is you don't read/speak German. We stayed at the Zum Baren, it is a very steep walk downhill to get to the actual river, not bad going downhill but a steep uphill climb. It's easy to take a boat to Mainau Island, don't miss it, so very beautiful and also there is a boat to Konstanz, across the Bodensee for a visit to the Switzerland side of the lake. Also, Lindau is nearby, besides the many interests in Meersburg will certainly keep you busy. Enjoy your visit. Susan |
Lindau: Old town, flat, pretty, quaint
Meersburg: Old town, steep (but doable), pretty, quaint |
Ditto both,
We prefer Lindau ((I)) |
I've stayed in Lindau and thought it a really sweet old town - it lovingly sticks out into the lake on a peninsula. Have not been to Meersburg but am putting it on my list.

We have stayed in both Lindau and Meersburg. Both are great but I think we liked Meersburg best.
We also stayed at the Zum Baeren. If you have any problem walking back up from the Lake (if I can do it, it's not that bad), then there is bus service available from the Lake to the road right across the street from the Zum Baeren hotel. http://www.baeren-meersburg.de/ I definitely agree with taking the boat to Mainau Island. Some of the most beautiful flowers I have ever seen. A couple of photos of Meersburg and Mainau from our webshots photo album: http://travel.webshots.com/photo/233...11574650dqFaGW http://travel.webshots.com/photo/292...11574650fSmJZJ In September, we are going back to Bodensee but this time we are staying in Uberlingen. |
