Lake Como to Bolzano - most scenic route?
 

I will be driving from the northern part of Lake Como to Bolzano and will be in no particular hurry. Should I take Road number 38 via Bormio/Passo dello Stelvio/Merano or Road number 39/42 via Edolo/Vermiglio/Cles? I'm looking for scenery!

If you had written the proper name, I would have anwered yesterday. Simply didn't know that the Stilfser Joch had such a funny name. Go for the Stilfser Joch road, and make sure the car's in good condition! The scenery is breathtaking and the road quite difficult :-)

I didn't answer because I haven't done it, but I'd love to drive that road over Stilfersjoch---the one Logos999 chose. Especially on a motorcycle.

I have to agree. The Stilfserjoch road is absolutely breathtaking. It is one of the highest roads in the Alps, and you get very close ton the glaciers of the Ortler massiv. There are several cable car from the top of the pass up into the glaciated area where you can ski in the summer.

Now the best way over the Stilfserjoch is of course by bicycle... ;-)
