Lake Como side trips

Jump to last reply

We are coming from Milan and staying in Moltrasio for several nights, and have trips up the lake planned (Bellagio, Villa Carlotta/Balbianello, Varenna, etc). We have one extra day with nothing to do.
We do have a car as well.
Would really appreciate suggestions to other day trip options. We like historical sights, wine/food, museums/castles. Not much interest in shopping, so outlets are not an option. Some ideas I am considering:
Lake Lugano? Is it worth visiting? Seems like more of the same stuff we already have in lake Como.
Drive up to Soglio? Seems a bit far (~1:45 from Moltrasio) which is about as far as I would be willing to drive on a day trip.
Other places on the lake?
Is Villa D'Este possible to visit if we are not staying/dining there?
