Lake Como or Lake Garda
Which do you think is a better choice for 2 nights between Milan and Venice, Bellagia on Lake Como or Sirmone on Lake Garda. We'll have a car, no children and plan to go in August?
|
Having spent time at both this summer (as well as Stresa), I'd say it's no contest. Bellagio is simply remarkable. Sirmione is fine, although we enjoyed the little town of Torri de Benaco on Garda better, especially with a car.

I have been to both also, and Sirmione was better than I expected - - which is to say, maybe half as cool as Bellagio.

Bellagio is slightly greater distance out of your way. It might add 75 miles to your 200 miles between Milan and Venice. Sirmione about 25 miles. Just guessing on these figures.

Best wishes,

Rex
Rex, you compared them so perfectly and said it so much better than I. I agree with your assessment 100%.

Thanks for the kind words, Patrick - - and welcome back from your major, major - - and woderful - - odyssey.

May I invite you to take a look at www.travel-board.com - - a worthy, albeit fledgling little forum. Maybe ask or answer a question sometime?

Has some cool features like the ability to post a link or a picture.
Thanks everyone for your replies. I'll definitely go to Como. Do you recommend Bellagio over Veranna (sp?)?

Speaking in generalities (but specific cases will make this statement moot), you can get more room at lower cost in Varenna or Menaggio than in Bellagio. Chacnes are you are mostly going to want to spend time exploring Bellagio. The ferries connect any two points in less than 10-15 minutes. And cheaply.

Best wishes,

Rex
