Lake Como or ? .... Hotels
If weather permits us to go to Lake Como instead of Florence in November we
need some hotel suggestions. Looking for something close or on the lake. Location is very important to us. Thinking of around 300 euros per night. Most of the hotels I find are closed for the season. Thanks |
We stayed in Mennagio at Hotel du Lac and enjoyed it. I do not know what your needs or price range is, but have a look at
http://www.hoteldulacmenaggio.it/pre...oms=1&adults=2 There are at least two other smarter hotels in Menagio, but this one suited us just fine. |
Most of the hotels are closed for a reason. Other than Como and Menaggio (not the most charming options IMO), things will be verryy quiet. Many restaurants close too, and the ferries will be on winter schedules which are not conducive to sightseeing. Check the days and hours for things you want to see, like Balbianello, Carlotta, etc.

We have gone to places that are very seasonal in the off season and regretted it. We won't do it again. If even hotels are closed you can bet most other things are as well. I would give this area a miss and head somewhere else in Nov.

NOthing so dull as a resort area off season. Weather and short days, not to mention closed restaurants, etc. will make it difficult to fully appreciate this lovely area.
Go to Florence! It is one city I would visit 12 months of the year. |
As everybody knows, there are of course tons of (open) charming places between the extremely different areas of Lake Come and Florence .......

For a November trip, if I had the choice between Lake Como and Florence, I would pick Florence. But then again, I love great art, great shopping, and great food.
It starts getting cold in Lake Como toward the end of August, and it can be quite windy. Friends who live there year round tell me the lake's center feels like a ghost town in winter. November storms are quite common. I'm sure there's a certain "winter" beauty that can be breathtaking at times, and if you're a pro photographer, you could capture some interesting photographs. But beyond that, a toasty-warm hotel room and a variety of good meals might be a challenge to find. |
