Lake Como of Cinque Terra?

Heading back to Italy, the plan just came together. We arrive in Milan and have five days before we have a booking in Firenze.

Should we head to Lake Como or Cinque Terra? We are open to any thoughts or suggestions. Do we need to drive to Como? Train to CT?

Como I think is probably more of a contemplative place. Cinque Terra lots of activity and moving around. I like the Via Della Amore at Riommagiore; and the town of VernaZZa the best. You can hike along a trail on the coast between cities or take a couple of minute train ride.

Florence is a 2 or 3 hour train ride thru LaSpezzia.

Either way you can't miss..............

By the way, when in Florence, go to Trattoria ZAZA at San Lorenzo market. One of my favorite places to eat in the world.

Como is so close to Milan that can be covered as a day trip. There are actually two train lines doing the route, the commuter line from Milan Cadorna to Como Lago arrives just at the lakeside.

Another alternative for a day trip is train Milan to Varenna, then ferry to Bellagio. You can go back via the same route, or a boat to Como and then train to Milan.

Both Como and Cinque Terre make little sense in late autumn or winter.

Started my honeymoon in Lake Como in December 19xx. It's different, but it still makes sense. Sure, we got rained on sometimes, but we also got some clear days (with short daylight) AND THERE WERE NO CROWDS.
