Lake Como-Lecco, Verenna or Bellagio as base?

Hi for three days in Lake Como which one would you suggest as base?
Please help me decide.
Thanks

Are you coming by train? If so, Varenna may be best.

Hi Bob,
we will be in Santa Margherita Ligure to explore potofino and the five villages in CT for three days then thinking to plan a train ride and stay over in Lake Como for 2 or 3 days and need to be back in Venice on the sixth day to catch a cruise, is this doable??? I am getting nervous as how to get back from the LAke area to Vencie? The cruise leaves at 5pm on Saturday, do you suggests returning via train to Venice on Friday night or early Saturday morning? I understand the ride is around 4 hours . Any suggestions on number of days? should we forget about Lake Como area and just stay in CT area?
Any suggestions is much appreciated.
Thank you

You can visit Lake Como between CT and Venice. I would travel back late afternoon on Friday so you have a place to leave your luggage during the day (Saturday) in Venice before your cruise.

Will you be spending any time in Venice? If not I would skip Lake Como and visit Venice during those days. Otherwise three days on Lake Como would be great.

From any of the mid lake towns you can take a train from Varenna-Esino (buy your ticket ahead of time when you buy the ticket to get to Lake Como) to Venice SL, connecting in Milan. The trip is about 4 hours.

Thank you Adrienne,
We have already visited Venice few times and trying to use the time to visit a new area such as Lake Como but can't figureout if i should limit only 2 days in Lake Como and return to Vencie the night before the cruise since there is at least 4 hour train rie from Varenna to venice?? not sure if we get to the cruise on time if we take that train on the day of the cruise

OK--I answered your other post and did not connect the 2.
Whichever lake will do fine. You have an hour train ride into Milan and then to Venice-you should have plenty of time.

The walk to the staion in Varenna is uphill and not easy with luggage. I would prefer Stresa in this scenario.

Two days on Lake Como would be a good amount of time. You'll have time to walk around all the small towns at a leisurely pace. The lake ferries are wonderful - I loved riding them, watching one town recede and the next town approach. I preferred Bellagio to Varenna - it's only a short ferry ride away.

As I said above, you should get to Venice on Friday and leave nothing to chance.

I prefer Bellagio also. I have stayed at Varenna once, but I like all the little shops and walk up pizza places in Bellagio where you can buy by the slice.
