Lake Como in March
Hello,
I'm going to Lake Como, Italy in March..my plan so far is to fly lax to Zurich, spend a night or 2 then train down to Como. (I have 2 weeks and 2 days)
Has anybody done this trip as of recent?
any info appreciated!

Are you thinking of spending two weeks on Lake Como in March?
March is not the best time, and there was a thread a little while ago in which people were pretty divided whether one week was too much to spend on Lake Como.
Do at least think of going to Venice and the towns in the Veneto, of which the most important are probably Padua, Verona and Vicenza.

Eloise,
thank you for responding. Because I have a friend who lives in Santa Barbara (where I'm from) but will be home in Como during my visit I thought I might base myself in a hotel there and do some day trips (have been thinking of Verona, Tuscany(for an overnight)??

Tuscany (or Florence, to be precise) is 3.5 to 4 hours from Como, which is the southernmost town on the lake. I'd take 3 days, if I could.
Como-Verona is about 2.5 hours, so think about overnight. Verona-Vicenza can be as little as 30 minutes, as much as 50. You might think of doing a day in each.
Como-Venice is about 4 hours, so again, I'd suggest 3 days. Venice-Padua is 30 minutes, more or less; I'd take 4 days in Venice and do a day trip to Padua.
If you are not actually staying with your friend, perhaps she would not be offended if you spent some time discovering more of Italy.

Your post heading says "Lake Como" and then you speak of "Como"....are you talking about staying in the town/city of Como or in some other town along the lakeshore?
The reason I ask is this can make a difference in terms of available transportation/rail connections, etc.

I'm reffering to staying in the town of como part of the time, would like to explore Bellagio and possibly a couple of days in Tuscany and or Verona. Also, I will be flying into Zurich, should I plan on a night there or head to the train station (possibly seeing Zurich @ the end of my trip)?
