Lake Como ferry service
 

We will be in Varenna in September 2011 without a car. Train service to Como is indirect. Is there direct ferry service from Varenna to Como?

Yes there is ferry service between Varenna and Como and I believe frequent enough buses as well that could be quicker and cheaper. Anyway no problem going between Varenna and Como buy public transports.

Check later in 2011 with http://www.navlaghi.it/; presently there are no schedules published. There is a service from Varenna to Bellagio for sure; takes about 15 min. From Bellagio there is a bus to Como (1 hr 20 min; about 2.5 euros) or a fast ferry (40 min; around 10 euros)

Try this website instead. Look at the timetables for the fast ferry from Colico to Como. You'll see there are many more frequent stops at Bellagio, so you'll want to go there rather than wait in Varenna.
