Lake Balaton or Lake Bled?

Hi,

We are planning to visit lake balaton in Hungary and also lake bled & bohinj in slovenia. Are these lakes very similar?

We would love to visit all 3 lakes. But, if we have limited time, which one should we pick?

Would we be missing a lot in case we decide to skip lake balaton?

Thanks.

The Slovenian lakes are far superior in regards of scenery. Not much missed if skipping Lake Balaton.

You don't go to Lake Balaton for scenery - it's pretty flat landscape - but for the watersports and bathing/sunbathing in high summer. Slovenian lakes are truly spectacular and scenically far superior.

Lake Bled is absolutely beautiful, from the old building at the top to the church on the island in the middle. You can hire a rowing boat to go out to it, and the grass tobogganing around the lake is also great fun. It was one of the most surprising and brilliant things I did when interrailing. Definitely go!
