Lake Annecy for a day?
Is Lake Annecy worth spending a full day and night in or is it more of a place to drive through on our way from Chamonix to Cote D Or? As of now, we have reservations for one night at the Hotel du Palais de l’isle. Thanks!

the lake is lovely, and if you drive around it you can visit the abbey de hautecombe. the town of annecy is very nice and worth at least half a day.

The old, central part of Annecy is not suitable to "drive through." You must explore it and enjoy it on foot. Spend the night. Your hotel is fine. Unless you don't eat pork, order tartiflette, the regional dish. Potatoes, reblochon cheese, ham or bacon, baked. Mmmmm good.

The hotel is great and well located in the old town. It is a beautiful place. One night is good, though you'd get the flavor of the place in a day too.

The old town is fun. We went to a restaurant sat outside and watched the drag queens in the bar area who were fun. There was also dancing on the top floor. The drive along the lake is very nice. I tried to locate the house shown in Claire's Knee.
We have stayed twice on the lakeside and had one of the best meals at lakeside. |
We spent one night at the Hotel du Palais du l'Isle and found it to be a great location. We were there in the summer and rented a small boat for a couple of hours and really enjoyed that.

While you're there, take a boat or the car around the lake to Talloires and have lunch at Pere Bise.

That is a nice, clean hotel, although it seemed more Scandanavian to me than French. The old town is lovely and so is the lake. If you have the time, it is certainly worth the stop.
