Laidback or anyone else familiar with Sancerre
I did it! I committed to two weeks at the Coeur de France. My plans, though, are tight. I have only a few hours, if that in Paris, before my train leaves for Cosne sur Loire.
Two big questions: Are there ATM machines in Sancerre? Is there a cellular phone store there? I have been on Mappy.com and am seeing very little. Any insight Laidback (who attended the school) or others can give would be very much appreciated. Josephina |
There are ATM machines in Sancerre. I used the one on the square that the church is on because of its convenience to the school. I don't know about a cellular phone store, but a quick e-mail to Gérard at the school should get a response. I found all of the staff to be very helpful. My instructor was Valérie for the 1st week and Beth for the second. We enjoyed it so much that we have booked another 2 weeks in Sept. Budget for one meal at La Tour, which is an excellent restaurant, and enjoy several lunchs at the friendly, affordable Auberge Joseph Mellot. They are both on the same square a short walk from the school. I will be happy to try and answer any questions you have about Coeur de France or the area.

Thank you! The ATM info is a relief. I am so happy to know you were pleased with the school, and I will be bothering you with a plethora of questions in the near future.

josephina when will you be in Sancerre? We are returning in Sept.

I've never visited but, please drink plenty of wine for me. Sancerre is some of my favorite, reasonably priced wine (both red and white).

Hi Laidback, I will be there in August. I was very impressed that you and others not only plan to return, but plan to do so so soon.

Please report back about your experiences in August as the village was extremely quiet in March and we understand it will be bustling in August.

We've been there in June and September; in both times it was busy but not mobbed. However, it can be hot AND muggy there in summer. The Hotel Panorama has a pool and people do go wading/swimming in the Loire nearby.
Be sure to try the La Tour restaurant, but don't eat upstairs...eat in the pretty main floor dining room. If you rent a car to go exploring, the Berry region below Bourges (a city definitely worth seeing as well) is beautiful and seems like "real" France as it has so few tourists even though there is much to see. |
Dear BTilke: I will not have a car, but Gérard, I think, will be offering a trip to Bourges on one of my afternoon and I look forward to seeing it.
