For whomever asked what "muscovado" is - it's basically brown sugar (which is actually regular sugar with molasses processed into it.) While living in London (and since using a few British cookbooks) I often came across it listed as an ingredient in baking recipes, etc. and finally figured that out. (In England they also call our regular granulated sugar "caster sugar." Go figure.)So - a brown sugar macaroon - sounds pretty good to me.

Today, I saw the film Cet-Amour-La with Jeanne Moreau playing on of my favorite writers, Marguerite Duras. There's a scene with her young lover(she's at 66 and he's at 28) and she mentions how she loves Laduree's macaroons.

Topping for Carmen!
Liketogo2, the chocolat is indeed divine but veddy, veddy rich. I like the subtler flavors of the pistache JUST a tad better.
MelissaHI, I think someone posted a Laduree macaron recipe awhile back from one of the gourmet mags. I'll see if I can't top it.
kcw214, I still haven't tried the Gerard Mulot ones yet but I would like to try them next trip. Here I was at a one Place St-Sulpice last trip (I forget the name for the moment but it was one of Henry Miller's favorite cafes) and didn't realize that Gerard Mulot was just practically around the corner. I could've tried one! And haven't been to Hediard or Fauchon yet; after 3 trips, can you believe it?? So much to do, so little time.
Ahhh! Thanks, Hadley! Is that your real name or are you a Hemingway fan? In either case, I like the name.
I can always count on Cigalechanta to place Paris and all things French into an even greater cultural perspective for me! My repertoire of French films has grown since I've known you. Thank you, Chica!!

Wow, what a compliment, thanks beatchick, but I do not know paris the way you do, as I spend my time in the provinces, mostly Provence but I have heard that Hermes makes the best Macaroons and his shop[ is described as a jewel box. Anyone tasted them? Feed back for Mary and Me?

Hi all,
You might like to know that Pierre Hermes has opened a shop at
72 r Bonaparte 75006 (about 2 blocks south of Laduree at 21 r Bonaparte 75006)in addition to his shop at 185 r Vaugirard 75015.
His rose macarons are an amazing experience.
We stayed at the Hotel Bonaparte andwere able to stop at each shop each day of our visit to Paris.
This was the first time I gained weight.

LOL, Ira! I can just imagine me staggering from one place to the other sampling the wares. I guess one WOULD gain weight with them being in that close a proximity to one's hotel. Did you ever have breakfast at Laduree? I am thinking, though, that the one near your hotel doesn't do breakfast.
I was telling Carmen that I would like to try the rose ones next.
Mimsy, you know I never give out compliments unless I really mean them. And you say you don't know Paris as well as I but yet you always steer me to great books about it, ones I hadn't heard of before such as Thirza Vallois' series. And you were the one who told me about Le Train Bleu which I have vowed to go some time, hopefully, in the near future - probably my next solo trip.

Its a Ferret Pro multiple and rotational search engine - you nominate which of about 30 engines you want to search and the printout is line by line with the first 30 words of the site across the page. Excellent for finding very fine detail, lost friends etc. You can arrange sequential words all words, boolean expression etc. etc. I think when associating haupia with Paris and Coffee in the recent thread, I used all words and inserted coffee, Paris and haupia - the first sites that came up related to Ladurees macaroons.

Oh, those macaroons sound yummy!
I will not be visiting Paris, but have a long layover at CDG in September enroute to Lisbon.
Does anyone know if there are shops selling macaroons in Terminal 2C or 2D.
Thanks.
