Not sure about Paris, but capris were everywhere the last 2 weeks in Rome, Sorrento, Siena, Venice, Capri, Positano, Ravello, etc. If wearing shorts, they were the knee length, longer ones, although I saw a few VERY short shorts on a few VERY young people. Lots of skirts.

Have fun!

Definitely capris in London. I saw a beautiful girl wearing them today. She was dressed all in black with capri sandals. It helped that she was tanned and had that white-blonde hair but she looked cool and chic.

Capri sandals?? Oh, the things we learn on Fodor's I thought only pants can be "capri".

After Googling, I know there ARE capri sandals. Just some modified flip-flops.

Um..no, Faina. Capri sandals are not just "modified flip-flops". Why don't you check out the following website of an outfit frequented by the likes of Sophia Loren, Jackie Kennedy, etc:

Hey, made on the island of....

CAPRI

(and ripped off by such latecomers as Michael Kors, Miss Trish of Capri..)

I don't know about women, but every man in Paris between the ages of 18 and 60 was wearing "capris" in the hot weather on the weekends and on Bastille Day. I really felt out of it wearing long pants.

I don't know who said ladies aren't wearing them in Paris, but that's wrong. I just got back from Europe where I was in Paris, Germany, Czech Republic and Poland and they were common in all those places -- both being worn and for sale in stores. They have lasted a long time, I think they are more of a classic summer style than just a temporary fad (like leggings can be). Women weren't wearing shorts very much at all in all the places I was and I don't wear them myself in cities. Casual cotton/linen skirts were very common, probably more than capris.

I just returned from Ireland and London. There were capri's all over. Men and women's capri's. Lots and lots of shorts also. The Irish were enjoying their heatwave!

Ally, yes, this is what I Googled. Sorry, but in my books these are flip-flops. Call them capris, mules, backless shoes - still flip-flops. Yes, I AM old-fashioned.

Havaianas are flip flops - rubber. Like we wore to the beach in the 70s. Canforas (capri sandals) are leather-soled and cost about 50x more. They are not the same. Here's some more comment on flipflops:

I am wearing my geniune Capri sandals today, I have them in different colors, great if you don't have to walk very far or for a very long time.

I see that leggings are making a comeback in the Fall. Just think a whole new Fodorite argument in the wings.

We were in Italy in June and women were definitely still wearing capris and the longer (to the knee) shorts. As someone else mentioned men were wearing alot of capris as well. I will be interested to see how long it takes for American guys to wear these - or if they even will!

Don't know and don't care, BUT -- been in the company of a very unfashionable German family the last week or so and they're all wearing capris. Yep, the guys too.

I don't know what happens in Paris, but I do know that there were Parisian men who wore capris in Portugal.

Budman, with your legs, you should reconsider.

STW, do you really want Budman to hide those legs behind a pair of capris?! I'm thinking shorts!

I'm a man and I've been wearing capris ever since 2003 when I bought some in Italy. I now have 3 pair of them and love wearing them in the hot summer months. I wish I could find some more. Anybody know where it find them? For men they're often called flood pants.

Hey, some guys won't wear pink or any pastel. Some guys won't eat salads. Some guys won't go to a symphony or opera. It sounds or looks to "sissified." I'd hate to be that afraid of myself!

I don't understand why a guy wouldn't wear them. Why does he say "no way"? Is this some idea that they are feminine or what? And why would pants that are in-between ankle and knees be feminine but not long shorts which end just below the knee which so many guys wear?

I don't know about the flood pants, in France, I think they are called the same thing in stores for men and women -- pantacourts. No need to show him photos, you can just see all the guys wearing them when you are there, and he'll get the idea. All kind of men wear them in Europe, it isn't just real young guys or whatever. Okay, I've never seen a man over 70 wearing them (I don't think). In hotter areas, they are really common. Last summer when I was in Montpellier for a while, for example, maybe half the men were wearing them around. It's just a popular style, that's all, and men's styles change as much as women's. They can't be a stiff fabric, though, or they'd look weird.
