LA VIE EN ROSE
Any input on the La Vie en Rose in Paris? Thanks.
|
Hello, Go down to the posting "How can an American get married in Paris", date 11/27/97. The last respondent mentions "La Vie en Rose" with a glowing review based on personal experience.

If you'd really like to know - just visit the website. Do read the entire piece carefully. While the post below gives a glowing recommendation, be warned that the maximum clearance is 6'. I doubt I'd find this comfortable, no matter how luxurious. Then there's the constant motion of a small boat. Wonder what the aroma is when the level of the river is low? How about negotiating "gangways and/or steep steps" every time you come and go (especially all dressed up for dinner)? Certainly you would not have "all of the conveniences you would expect of a five-star hotel", such as an on-sight restaurant, room service, a concierge, security...And, the incidental "freebies" hardly seem worth the daily rate. You could do a lot better for $500/night! On the other hand, if this is what "floats your boat", it could make for an interesting honeymoon or anniversary experience. Curious choice, however, for a person "desperate for a luxury hotel". A boat and a hotel are two entirely different things.

What kind of input do you want? I presume you're
asking this because you read the post below from someone claiming to be a tourist who just stumbled across it my accident on the WEB while surfing for 5-star luxury hotels (yeah, sure). Well, you can judge for yourself, but that post appears to be an advertisement to me -- aside from the language which is taken rather directly from their marketing on their WEB site, I don't find it very credible that someone who routinely drops $500+ per night on luxury hotels is going to get all excited about "free" shampoo and bathrobes. It also seems somewhat coincidental that both the poster and the owners of this boat have AOL e-mail addresses. However, if this appeals to you, you should know that it isn't that close to a metro stop so isn't the most convenient location. Also, another thing to think about is that the water level of the Seine is considerably below main land level, so you may mainly have a view of the concrete river bank walls. (BTW, the Hotel George V where the poster wanted to stay is currently closed for renovations, I think). |
Amen!

See my earlier "amen" and note that you are correct. Buy your own shampoo, I'll lend you a robe. Stay somewhere that doesn't bob and weave in the Seine. Do your own bobbin' and whatever'n
So many bad hotels at horrendous prices in London, Paris, Berlin, Rome, etc; Better to find an apartment for a week, even if you staying only five or six days you save money and can have a glorious time. |
