La Samaritaine in Paris closed?

Hi,
Does anyone know whether La Smamaritiane is still closed for repairs? If it is, any other budget cafe where one can get a cofee and sandwich and relax?

Not for repairs--permanently. If you are talking about a cafe with a view you can try Galeries Lafayette or Printemps.

Gretchen,

The closure is not officially permenant. However, they are now saying it will be closed for 12 to 18 months before work begins to renovate the bldg to bring it up to saftey code. They then say the work will take 3 to 10 years but that it will either be done in phases with the store open or all at once with the store closed. The whole thing is very odd and I think LVMH is just manouvering to close the store permanantly.

On the river side of the Samaritane to your right (I think) is the Cafe the Pont Neuf ... and to your right is The Cafe Corona... nice folks there as well.
Neither is expensive.

I was in Paris the 22nd and was surprised to see that the store was closed..I believe that is something to do with the building's stucture..

I have read on other boards that that is the "cover storY". It is rumored that it will be converted to a hotel. They did a renovation fairly recently and would have done that upgrade then.
