La Giostra OR Ritrovo???
 

I'm torn between these two restaurants as I have read good reviews here on fodors. Has anyone been to either of these lately? If so, how did you like it? What did you have? Prices please!

What a great idea Ira! I didn't even think about lunch - was planning on quick stops for a slice of pizza or sandwich. Dinners: looking to spend $50/pp or under.

Il Ritrovo is about 40E pp, with wine, for the full dinner.

Well, I?ve been out of the loop for a while. Thanks Ira for the information on the price of a meal at Ritrovo. Perfect price range for me.

Il Latini seems good too, as far as being a good price and a fun place dining with others at long tables, but the reviews on the food don't par up with these other two.

I personally don't like the Latini restaurant, I'm a very good expert of Tuscan food and last time the T-bone steak I ordered was boiled!!
This unfortunately become a touristy place, whereas in the past was one of the best in Florence.

I've only been to La Giostra, so can't compare, but I LOVED it and would go back in a heartbeat (especially if the twins are still there--OMG!) Food and ambiance was great too.

It was about 4 years ago that we were there, so things may have changed, but check out the Fodor's restaurant section--it's reviewed there. Don't recall the price exactly, but that information will be in the restaurant review as well.

I have been to La Giostra two times and both experiences were wonderful...the food is awesome and make sure that you have the main chef, "the prince," explain all of the choices to you...he will gladly do so and offer recommendations. And the sacher torte and tiramsu are incredible dessert options...treat yourself right and you won't regret it!

For a quick sandwich, one of the best places that I have found in Florence is in the middle of a cave right by La Giostra...it is called "Atlantico Noe" or something similar...and it has wonderful options...very popular with students and less than 5 euros...definitely enjoyable!

I noticed that one site said that a coat and tie was needed for men. Anyone have any different info?

If you want to be treated well in a nice place your escort should wear a jacket. Tie is usually optional

If he shows up in a tee shirt and jeans, even if they are black, you run the risk of being put at the least desireable table.
