La Fenice Opera House -- Dress suggestions?

I can't believe I'm actually asking a "how to dress" question, but I just bought tickets for a performance of La Traviata at Le Fenice Opera house when in Venice in September. I definitely wouldn't wear jeans to go, but I was wondering if anybody had been to a performanced at Le Fenice and what is the dress mode? Dressy? Nice, but still somewhat casual?

I'm going to look around on the internet but as usual, thought I'd ask here first.

I took the tour last time I was in Venice and this time I thought it would be nice to actually see an opera there. I've never even see an opera, and I thought this would be the perfect place to start.

Now...what should I wear?

Well.. it's been a few years since we were there. First time we sat in the orchestra. I'd dress
"sedately"... or blandly, if you will, so you won't stick out no matter what everyone else is wearing. If, like the second time we were at Fenice, you sit in the cheap seats.. I think casual clothes are just fine. I doubt jeans would be noticed. La Traviata is a really good "first" opera -:)

You can get an idea of the atmosphere from this photo:

Mademoiselle,
That's a great picture. When I took the tour, I took some pictures but without all the people, obviously, since it was during the afternoon.

Gwendolyn & Mademoiselle,

It seems that if I wear a dress in general it should be okay. My ticket is in one the side balconies. Either way, this is so exciting...a new experience. Woohoo!!!

If you don't want to pack a dress just for the opera (ie, you won't wear the dress at other times on your trip), I'd just go with black pants and a dressy top, and perhaps a colorful silk scarf.
