La Fenice - Anyone been to the Opera at La Fenice in Venice? What did you see?

La Fenice, the opera house in Venice, burned to the ground 10 or so years ago. Does anyone know if it was rebuilt and is currently open? I would love to get tickets while we are there in April (over Easter holiday), but I am afraid that it will be closed even if its open. Has anyone been there recently? What did you see? Was it wonderful?

Well, not quite 10 years ago, more like 5 (it was 1996). Couldn't find anything when I did quick search, so my guess is that if its being built, it has not been completed. Oh well.

For info on the Teatro La Fenice (it's still a long way to it's reopening), the 2001 season calendar, etc, refer to (unfortunately in Italian)
http://www.teatrolafenice.it/

As you may notice, many shows are held in the Palafenice, which is an improvised theatre on the Tronchetto Island.

Paulo, you must be psychic. I'll bet when you posted that web address a couple of days ago instead of the one for Le Fenice Hotel you actually knew that someone was getting ready to ask you about the theatre!

I get a charming email monthly from Venice which details, among other things, the non-progress on the rebuilding of La Fenice. It appears the newest contractor is upset that they want it to be finished in 2002 or thereabouts, and has stopped work because he thinks it is an unreachable goal. Or maybe it's just they didn't want to work during Carnival. It's on my home PC, so I'll have to go home, pull up the email and probably revise the entire story I've put forth above.

Here's the name of the newsletter I get as well:
http://www.veniceworld.com
It has information on cultural events, weather forecasts, etc. It's a nice little piece.
It did have an article featuring the opera house recently.
I saw Figaro there several years ago and had tickets for the month after the fire! Very tragic for us all.

Well, Patrick, when I saw the thread title I jumped on it with that feeling: "this time I'm gonna have it right"
