I just made a reservation with them. They answer e-mails very promptly. <BR> <BR>From reading this board it seems that #3 is the best of the rooms. Unfortunately is was already booked when I contacted them. <BR> <BR>They do not have their own website, but here are some I have bookmarked for them: <BR> <BR>http://www.karenbrown.com/italy/pensionelacalcina.html <BR> <BR> <BR>http://www.pathfinder.com/travel/TL/805/venice.html <BR> <BR>Enjoy. <BR> <BR>Donna <BR>

We stayed in Room #3 and LOVED it! I have pictures of the view from the room and from the fabulous floating deck in front of the hotel. I can email them to you if you like. <BR> <BR>I don't have any pictures of the room interior, but I can tell you that it was absolutely immaculate and the bathroom was completely modernized. They also served a wonderful breakfast in their charming breakfast room. <BR> <BR>Good luck!

Hi Anna- <BR>Stayed at La Calcina last month and had room #24. It was great. Large windows overlooking The Giudecca Canal. Room was not very big but we loved it.

La Calcina sounds delightful. However, I will be traveling alone and am concerned about going out in the evenings alone. Would I be better off staying at a hotel closer to Piazza San Marco which is more centrally located? I appreciate all comments.

Karen, bear in mind that La Calcina is a mere 400 yards from the Accademia Gallery and Bridge (5 minutes on foot). While I have not yet visited this hotel (I am planning to stay there), I would be very surprised not to see LOTS of people walking around this area (at least until the Museum closing time of 10:00 p.m.) (or unless you choose to go to Venice from January 15 through February 28). I really would not worry about the location being too "secluded". The area around St. Mark's Square is certainly MUCH more crowded and noisy, and this is precisely the reason why many travelers prefer the Dorsoduro area of the City. Fellow Fodorites, any comments on this issue?

GAC - thank you so much for your help. La Calcina seems like a nice hotel and within my price range.
