Really enjoyed your report!

cmcfong Mar 18th, 2007 02:34 PM

Starrs, right you are to be jealous. she was terrific!
Debi and travelgirl, thanks for reading my report. I had fun reliving the trip.

Fodorite018 Mar 18th, 2007 02:37 PM

Sounds like a great trip! I don't care for heights either, but loved the London Eye. We had maybe 8 people total in our pod and I was never anxious. I think because the way it moves maybe. Anyway, glad you enjoyed it too!

I have just now gotten back from the trip, flying through JFK (which was a madhouse because of all the flight cancellations this weekend). I will try to write a short report - we had a fabulous trip and left just as the weather was about to turn cold!

cmcfong Mar 19th, 2007 03:40 AM

Welcome home, noe. I am anxious to read your report. I,too, was grateful to have missed all those weather snafus. USAIRWAYS seems to have been particularly gummed up.

Any other restaurant recommendations?

P_M Mar 19th, 2007 04:16 PM

cmcfong, thanks for sharing your trip with us!! I've always wanted to go to Canterbury and WILL go on my next London trip!! That was funny about possum fur. I'm not a fur fan, but I wouldn't protest much over possum fur. :-))

cmcfong Mar 19th, 2007 05:37 PM

Yep, possum inspired neither envy nor passion for defense. Do go to Canterbury, it is wonderful.

CMCFONG, I will be flying out of CLT to London Gatwick on USAir. I've heard that many flights are no frills, now. Does USAir provide blankets and pillows? On the return flight from Gatwick to Charlotte, I've heard that you can't purchase water once you are past security in Gatwick. Do they provide much water on the flight? Without water on long flights, I swell up like a frog.

Don't know how I missed your report the first time around. Good thing it was topped.

Great report! ((l)) To recognize cmcfong - look for the lady in shades ((h))

Glad you enjoyed the Eye - I would have felt terrible talking you into it if it ended up being an ordeal.

CocoNat Apr 17th, 2007 05:36 PM

Janisj, or anyone whose done the London Eye--

Can you please talk me into going on the London Eye?! I'm afraid of heights also but my husband really wants to ride the eye. Should I be scared? What can I expect?

Thanks in advance.

LCBoniti Apr 17th, 2007 06:08 PM

CocoNat - click on her screen name (janisj) and find her trip report from early March. Really good report and she describes the London Eye very well.

cmcfong - I really enjoyed this. Sorry I missed it the first go around. Great ideas for my trip with my sisters.

flanneruk Apr 17th, 2007 06:25 PM

Whoever said you can't buy water after security at Gatwick, they're an idiot. If they tell you there's an "a" in the day, mistrust them from now on.

Of course you can. Does anyone seriously believe a British airport retailer would pass up on the chance to make money?

And even the most frill-devoid of airlines carry the stuff onboard.

janisj's trip report: http://fodors.com/forums/threadselec...p;tid=34957240

there's another long thread about the Eye and fear of heights. If I can find it, I'll post it.

Here it is: "Scared to go on the London Eye": http://fodors.com/forums/threadselec...mp;tid=1345291

RaleighGirl, the USAIRWAYS flight to Gatwick from CLT is very comfortable, plenty of pillows and blankets. The food was atrocious on my flights.

Water and relatively good shopping are available at Gatwick. There is also a Clarins shop with treatments usually available.

CocoNat,I am scared to death of heights and would never have taken the Eye without a bit of prodding and janis' assurances. It is absolutely wonderful, very slow....and the payoff is a spectacular view. Do it!

Have a wonderful time.

Is granola the Amerian name for muesli?

cmcfong Apr 18th, 2007 08:14 AM

Yes.
