Krispy Kreme at Harrods

I'm going to have my FIRST KK doughnut tomorrow. Hope it's good. Will let you know what I think..

Kavey Oct 3rd, 2003 02:23 AM

Ally did you read the article in the ES Metro mag yesterday? The woman who had the KK doughnut for breaky then went out for dinner that evening still feeling slightly full from her very early morning dougnuts!

Gretchen Oct 3rd, 2003 02:31 AM

Definitely try to get it when the "Hot Now" neon sign is on. It is sublime. And don't be fooled into eating another right away!!

Degas Oct 3rd, 2003 04:55 AM

Do they have a fast take-out service? I'd like to stop briefly in the middle of my morning jog (new weight loss program) and get my energy levels back up.

What would a baker's dozen set me back? That litle snack should hold me until I can attack a FULL english breakfast back at the hotel.

AllyPally Oct 3rd, 2003 05:20 AM

I'm taking my camera with me to record the event for posterity. I can't wait.

HelenZass Oct 3rd, 2003 05:52 AM

Goodness gracious, just how much DO you weigh? Given the weight issues in this land of overeating, gluttony is hardly an appropriate source of humor. Stay on that diet, degas, youll live longer. If my spouse emulated your behavior, he'd find his fat butt out.

Scarlett Oct 3rd, 2003 06:03 AM

Ally Pally, I want to see those photos! Will you have them with a spot of tea or just gobble them down at once :)

Degas, precious, you made me choke on my morning coffee! I think you should start with one and work you way up. By the way-I really must try your new weight loss program, mine is SOOO boring!

HelenZass Oct 3rd, 2003 06:06 AM

degas, how much?

AllyPally Oct 3rd, 2003 06:07 AM

Do you know what? I was just thinking about that. Tea or coffee? Which one should I choose. Although coffee would be the natural choice, they probably don't do cream (like my coffee with cream). So, maybe a spot of tea at 4pm would be better.

What do you guys think? Maybe I should have a cup of each.

Will definitely post the photo somewhere!

Scarlett Oct 3rd, 2003 06:09 AM

AllyPally, keep it "British"..have a cuppa tea!

Horrors! I hope we are not all expected to start posting our weights on here :O

Degas Oct 3rd, 2003 06:16 AM

I was being weighed at the feed and grain store over in Sweetwater springs. However, the scales only go to 300 pounds and I topped that puny figure a few years ago.

The "little wife" is okay with my weight as she likes to grab a hold to something real substantial so she can keep from being thrown when we play cowgirl and wild bronco after the kids are asleep.

irishdame Oct 3rd, 2003 06:19 AM

NOOOO keep it AMERICAN! Coffee would be the ONLY drink you have with one of those lovlies!

Lola Oct 3rd, 2003 06:23 AM

Well, whomever HelenZass really was, it is gone from Fodors, soon to return as some new Troll.

Enjoy the donuts Ally!

Smilingstill Oct 3rd, 2003 06:26 AM

LOL, nice that you can be so jolly about it. But do be careful!!! You want to stick around as long as possible. Sounds like you've got company.

Gothampc Oct 3rd, 2003 06:31 AM

In my opinion, KK's are better off after they have cooled. When you get them straight out of the oven, they are too squishy and the sugar coating is too syrupie.

Also, while I don't want to deprive the British people of a great confection, it depresses me as an American tourist that I have to see KK when going to London. I go to London to get away from America.

Smilingstill Oct 3rd, 2003 06:37 AM

I must disagree - KK straight from the oven, when you're in danger of a 3rd degree burn from the drips, is over the top. We used to boost them with a peanut butter cover, which of course melted right in. Two of those dudes and you were definitely good to go.

BUT let me add this caveat - we were incredibly stupid and risk taking, being in our teens. We somehow managed to move on to other equally destructive habits, lol.

But I think Degas has the right idea, and for lunch today, two KKs for a fast dessert. And lets pray my partner doesn't put my thumbs in the screws tonight and force the truth out.

AllyPally Oct 3rd, 2003 06:38 AM

Oh come on Goth, I don't think one little KK outlet is going to change the culinary landscape of London! There are still enough creepy, crusty, dank pubs to get lost in and buy warm beer in and Cockney cab drivers to take you to them. I'm going to buy my KK donut and stroll to Hyde Park to feed the ducks. I'm getting goosebumps just thinking about the possibilities!! :-)

AllyPally Oct 3rd, 2003 06:39 AM

Ok, I guess I'm missing something here. I can get them hot out of the oven? And burn myself? This is different...

AllyPally Oct 3rd, 2003 06:44 AM

Press release from the KK website:

On October 3rd at 9.00am we will be opening our first Krispy Kreme store in the UK in the Harrods Food Halls, Knightsbridge, London.

Like other Krispy Kreme stores, our Harrods location will offer our customers the unique "doughnut-making theatre" experience. Visitors will be able to watch their doughnuts being made right before their eyes behind a glass window. A glaze waterfall, which coats more than 40 doughnuts per minute, contributes to a store production of more than 200 dozen doughnuts per hour. The new store will also feature the signature Hot Doughnuts Now neon sign, which lights up to inform customers that Original Glazed doughnuts are ready to be eaten fresh off the line.

MelJ Oct 3rd, 2003 06:47 AM

Oh, yes, Ally, HOT out of the oven. If Harrod's is doing it right, you'll get to watch them go down a conveyer belt from dough to delicious! Then you ask for the "hot" ones and they absolutely melt in your mouth! Almost TOO sweet! And, please, for the sake of us Yanks, have it with coffee :)

Friends from Edinburgh were visiting a few years ago and we took them for KK. Next time we went to visit they threatened not to answer the door unless we came KK in hand! She's also looked into opening a franchise in Edinburgh (alas, too pricey).

Enjoy and DO report back!
