Krakow vs Vienna
We are planning a trip to europe next year and wanted tospend a couple extra days and go to either Vienna or Krakow from Prague. For those who have been to both which would you recommend for this trip we will have 2-3 days. On this trip we will also be visitng Amsterdam, Prague and Rome. Thanks for any and all advice!

If you only have 2-3 days don't go to beautiful Vienna...it requires much more than that short of a visit. People will tell you that you can see this city in such a short time, they don't know what they missed. We have been for many times for at least 7 days at a visit to 1 month and always have more to come back for!

We went to both last month. Vienna is great, but if I were you, I'd go to Krakow. It's just so beautiful, colorful, and charming. However, it's btween two and three hours longer by train to Krakow from Prague than Vienna is. You can check on fares and travel times here:

I should have mentioned that one of the reasons I enjoyed Krakow so much is that the it's compact and really lends itself to comfortable walking.
However, if you don't go to Vienna, you'll miss the fabulous collection of Klimt paintings in the Belvedere Museum. |
I was in Vienna and Krakow earlier this year. I would strongly vote for Vienna. Although I enjoyed Krakow and would like to see it again, I've been to Vienna many times, love going there, and always look forward to the next trip.

I've a pet peeve: People who want to be told where to go without giving ANY input as to their likes/dislikes, interests, preferences, etc. Do they feel we have an intimate knowledge of their personalities, merely from being Fodorites?

well tomboy i just was looking for others views of the locations, I really will do anything but liked the idea of poland since we could go by aucshwitz and it was something a little different. Vienna was appealing bc i hear its so beautiful. We are always up for anything and everything.
