Krakow: Royal Chamber Orchestra

We would like to attend a concert at St. Adalbert Church in Krakow. Royal Chamber Orchestra apparently performs there every evening at 7:00 PM. We will be in Krakow May 22-26.

Do we need advance tickets?

If so, how do we get them in the USA?

Thanks.

I would buy the tickets when you get to Krakow. It's a small church and the seating is probably first come first seated so arrive early.

I went to a concert in another church in Krakow and bought the tickets at the church before the performance.

Thanks...where did you go, please? Do many churches have these events?

Hi cider43; We know the church well and bought a painting of the church.

It was 750 zloty [about 4/1 in dollars]and offered 6oo. Wife and husband argued a bit as she did not want to 'give it away', but it is hanging in our house.

On this site you can plug in your dates and then in the lower right is a calendar of events. It may show you what you are looking for. http://www.krakow.pl/english/visit_k..._adalbert.html

I went to a concert at Sts Peter and Paul Church. It was a concert of classical music.

I also went to amazing Vespers with Gregorian Chant, sung by the white-robed monks, at Basilica of the Holy Trinity church, daily (except summer) at 6:25.

At the end of May there should be lots of activity in the main square, buskers, fire dancers, etc. You won't run out of evening entertainment!

It is very common for there to be classical music concerts in churches in many European cities. I know I went to a couple in Krakow. But it is not common for one group to play every night in a place, the sounds like it is some tourist concert for that reason as a regular orchestra wouldn't do that. Meaning a show specifically made for tourists, and often the repertoire isn't very exciting for those type of shows. This isn't a major orchestra group in the country, just some local musicians who recently graduated from the music academy who do that. Now they could be good, of course, just saying that name doesn't mean they are a well-known orchestra.

You could also hear some Klezmer music, there are those type of concerts in Krakow. This website seems to mention the group you name, the thing that would bother me is there is no mention of the program. Which means they must play the same thing all the time and I'll bet anything it isn't something special, but something like Vivaldi or Ein Klein Nachtmusik or by Schubert, which has nothing to do with Poland. That's just a guess based on what those kind of concerts are like in other countries, I would hope I'm wrong. There actually isn't a lot of wellknown Polish chamber music I can think of, although Chopin wrote a few pieces.

here's a review of those concerts, the repertoire is as I suspected, not Polish at all, and includes Andrew Lloyd Weber. And they are only one hour which is also typical for those things.

I'd do something more specifically local to the place, like a Klezmer concert or at least the Chopin recital (even though most of his pieces are not particularly Polish-influenced, only the mazurkas and polonaises, and he lived mostly in France). Depends what you are seeking and what kind of music you really want to hear, I think you can do better than that Royal Chamber thing

If you google Royal Chamber Orchestra, Krakow you will get many very good reviews, with highly regarded musicians.

While we have been to a number of concerts in Krakow, this was not one of them.
