kopp sends greetings from Switzerland
Hello everyone. We are 2 weeks into our 4 week trip. Having seen picturesque Prague, magical Dresden, and modern yet romantic Berlin, we are now nice and cool in the Swiss Alps. What fun tales there will be to tell. Oh my.
Today is Swiss National Day so the streets are filled with delicacies and lots of music and fireworks. We took a boat ride to Burgenstock over Lucerne and could not get over the beautiful views of the city.
Take care y'all!

Hi kopp! Happy to hear your enjoying a wonderful trip. I'm wondering if you're going to finish your Italy trip report--I was looking specifically for your feedback on Rome. If you don't finish it is that a kopp-out?!? ;-) Perhaps I missed it. Look forward to reading more about your latest venture and I hope that 22 is working for ya! All the best, AnnMarie

Bergenstock sound too much like Birkenstock to me!!!! Glad it's spelled differently or I could never go there!!!! LOL I'm jealous to bits but so happy you are truly enjoying your trip.
Stop in again if you can, love hearing from you.

LoveItaly, boy oh boy did we have hot weather in Germany. One day the town thermometer read 40, which even in my inept conversion of metric was pretty hot. Our hotel had AC but of course there was a power shortage in town, even the signal lights on the streets in Berlin were down so the AC was on the fritz. Hard to sleep.
AnnMarie, I don't think I ever finished that Italy report. Don't know why. I'll look into it when I return. I know I took good notes.
Ingo, 3 days was definitely too short in your beautiful city. We absolutely loved the festival in the streets and all the museums.
Out of money on the computer. More later.

Kopp, I'm envious of your long trip even with the hot weather. It's hot here, too, with simmilar black outs in many areas. Send a report when you can for those of us traveling vicariously this summer!

Hi kopp, great to hear from you!!
You are SO lucky not to be here in Austin. It's hot, humid, and nasty as always this time of year. I have just returned from a 4 day weekend in Portland, OR and it was so fine to escape this oven called TX, even just for a few days. I so wish I could be in Switzerland right now.
I look forward to seeing you when you return. Hook 'em Horns!!

How fun this is to write as we go+ ' whoops, there goes that funnz keyboard again. It gets so confusing when you see those minutes clicking by.
What a change in the weather we have seen. It is now raining here and snowing in the mountains above our village. My mesh shoes, usually perfect for hiking, were soaked today as were mz socks. Squish, squish across the rocky trails. Oh boy.
We took a trip up to Pilatus zesterdaz. What a thrill it is to see the lakes down below and hike the ridge trails waz up high. The alpine flowers are so beautiful, and to see them grow right in the rocky hillside is amazing.
Tomorrow we head for Zermatt for a week. We will first take the train to the airport to drop off our friends who have been with us for almost 3 weeks. Traveling with friends, a whole new "adventure" for us. Well, sort of an adventure.
I have never eaten so much cheese, bratwurst, rosti, schnitzel, and apple strudel in mz life. Oh yes, the ice cream is good too but gluhwein goes better with chillz weather, lol.
Take care.

So glad the clouds parted for you on top of Pilatus. I got a break when I was up there also. Very cloudy day and then what do you know...they all blew away and boy oh boy..what a view!!!! Fabulous!!!! So glad you are checking in. Hope the rain stops but that's what goes with being in the high altitudes...dry your shoes, have a glass of wine..stay warm and dry.

DAX, I agree that not many have heard of Burgenstock. We have passed the area many times in years past while on the lake boats but never had the time to stop. This trip we made it a point to go up there and check out the hotels and view. The ride up is so thrilling, a short ride on the funicular but so steep.
We were there on their National Day, and the little courtyard was filled with music, dancing, and all kinds of little booths set up for eating and of course drinking. I sampled this melted cheese and apple wine over bread, 6CH for a few bites, but so delicious. Sort of like a mini fondue. The walk up to the elevator on the cliff was unbelievable. How they built it on the outside of the granite rock over a hundred years ago boggles the mind.
The 5* hotel is closing in October for renovation.
Time to go catch that 10:15 train.

You had great timing arriving there on Aug 1. I also like going there when they have international race car events. I always drove up so I never knew people can get up there on foot. Where does the elevator start? The only outdoor elevator I'm aware of is the short one that goes up only halfway to Furigen. Don't tell me you hiked up from Furigen into the resort because that's a very long hike. I've never stayed at the hotels but do use the pool at the resort club when I'm in the area. Happy travels!
