Konavle, Mlini, Caviat

Thinking of getting oreintation of dubrovnik and possibly traveling also to these towns fuirther south. Has anyone been to these places? With limited time, two full days for dubrovnik a small detour to see these-wortb it?

Two days? Tight. But if you decide, have lunch at Konanvoski Dvori, a few kms off the coast highway. There will be an arrow sign pointing inland with the name of the restaurant. The grounds are exceptionally beautiful, water wheel and falls, etc. The food offerings are excellent and very reasonable. Cavtat is a pleasant resort town, also nearby. All of this is close to the Dub airport.

Both Cavtat (Pronounced Savtat)and Mlini are pretty enough - you can get the boat from the harbour in Dubrovnik (or take the bus but the boat is nicer) to either. There is a very pleasant coastal path between the two, it's about a mile but it's not a difficult walk. There is a nice little restaurant mid way between the two places under the pine trees with a lovely shady terrace and a couple of tiny beaches just below.

There are boats returning to Dubrovnik from both places, so that's a chance for you to get your 'view of Dubrovnik from the sea'.
Konavoski Dvori nowadays is overrun with coach tour buses, all sampling the mass-produced 'lamb cooked under the bell'. There's another lovely place which is a few miles up in the hills above Konavle but is well worth taking a taxi up to. It is absolutely gorgeous up there!

You do need to telephone the day before to make your reservation.

There's also a thread on tripadvisor about lamb under the bell.

Julia..thanks for the sad update on KD..what a shame..it was a tranquil oasis as recent as 2004. I guess there's no hiatus on tourism when a place becomes too popular. Tour busses? UGH!

Jack..heed Julia's advice!

Stu

Julia...don't know if you've ever seen my scanned pix on the Old Yugoslavia and the new Croatia. With a dramatic magazine scene of the Mostar bridge bombed out...and what it looked like before.(I sent these to Jack a few weeks ago)

Stu - I did see these, I thought I'd commented already on how wonderful they are, and how much I enjoyed seeing them. Thank you once again for posting the link to them.

the person who will take us on a guided tour in split does suggest "seeing" konavle region. Cilipi is right next to cavtat (will be doing touring on a wednesday hence no fold festival on sunday. ) Is there any other areas if I do decide to go, to see?
