I have a friend who goes to Paris once a year to update her eyeglasses frames. Lots of chic frames in Paris. I usually buy my gifts to take home at Hediard across from the Madeleine - lots of interesting condiments, oils and vinegars. Across the square is Maile, the mustard purveyor, which has mustards I haven't found in the US. And its fun to shop on the Ile de St. Louis.

She may have but it is a great store and I stop there every year when we are in Paris!

Is this worthy of a triangle?

In the basement at BHV...it's like Home Depot here...but you can get very french house number tiles...they are beautiful and will always remind you of Paris.

fashionista - I'm intrigued by your umbrella suggestion. Here in the Pacific NW it rains (practically) all the time. When you say that shop's umbrellas are "very expensive," about how much are you talking?

I'll be looking for that shop in Sept... Do you recall its name?

Caitlin, I'm looking for something to bring home that I can't get in the US. Something that'll ooze Paris

Try sitting on a chocolate croissant.

(I took me nine years to think of an answer.)

Nadine Delphine at 13 Rue Princesse in the 6th for great jewelry.

Bon Marche department store in the 7th, accessories/handbags department for me. Plus, a lot of other accessories and handbags at the boutiques throughout the 6th and 7th especially.

Also, I find handbags in colors, sizes, and textures in Paris that I haven't been able to find here in the States; like the Chloe that I bought a few months ago in Paris that I've been told isn't available here in the size that I bought it in in Paris. The Chloe sales people here flip out when they see me carrying it.

Also, since I like to buy cookware, from time to time, I've found different cookware/cookware brands that I can't get here at home. I like to go to BHV department store, across from City Hall. Happy Travels!

There's also an umbrella shop on Blvd. St.Germain in the 6th, that's been there for decades. It's not far from the Cafe Flore. It's called Madeleine Gely, (sp?). It was bought out some years ago, but as far as I know is still there although I forgot to check a few months ago. Happy Travels!

The name of the Madeleine Gely shop has changed to Alexandra Sojfer and it's at 218 Blvd. St. Germain and is actually in the 7th, bordering the 6th. There are great umbrellas there. I've been going there for well over a decade.

If you want a custom parasol made then Parasolerie Heurtault is the place.

Narnya they come in at around 80 to 140 euros each. I cant remember the name of the shop but you cant miss it.

The shop was founded in 1740something. If your back is to the Louvre and you walk up to the junction of Rue de l'Echelle / Avenue de l'Opéra - its on the right hand side - on the Avenue de l'Opéra itself. Google map and street view have pics but I cand seem to paste them.

As a grandma I love the childrens shops on Rue Vavin outside of Lux. Gardens. My favorite childrens shop is "Mini Junior" at Montparnasse & Raspail. My girls have some adorable dresses from that shop, not frilly but trendy and wearable.
