Knitting needles on British Midlands flight?
 

I will be flying to Scotland this summer and am hoping to taking some knitting in my carryon. I'm flying over on UA (who, I've been told, allow bamboo knitting needles) from SFO into LHR and then catching a BM flight to Glasgow. Does BM confiscate bamboo knitting needles in carryon luggage? We plan to check our other luggage straight through (if possible) so I wouldn't be able to shove it in the checked luggage after landing. I know knitting needles have been discussed before, but it's been about a year since then and I'm hoping someone has more recent info on this. Thanks!

A story appeared a few weeks ago that UK safety rules had been redrafted specifically to allow knitting needles - though not necessarily nailfiles.

I'm not sure about the UK, but I when I fly in the US with my knitting, I use plastic circular needles - the needle part is only a few inches long, and they're connected by a plastic cord. I've never had them confiscated. Plus, on tight economy seats, you're not poking your seat mates with long needles.

My dear wife knitted happily on a 45-min. BMI flight from LHR to Edinburgh a couple of weeks ago. Bamboo needles, just like you. No big deal.

Oh goodie! Then I'll look forward to knitting some Christmas gifts on our overseas flights (when I'm not reading, sleeping, eating and watching movies). I'll just have to be careful not to poke my seatmate(s) with them. I don't own any circular needles yet, but maybe I will by then. I just learned recently and haven't graduated yet to anything beyond my regular needles. But I'm not flying till July so I still have time!
