kitchenettes in Paris

Hello, all. Looking for some guidance as we plan a trip to Paris in March. We'd like to have access to kitchen facilities (to save money on food and take advantage of market shopping), but have been discouraged at the prices we've seen. Is it unrealistic to think we might find an efficiency room in the 5th or 6th arr. for less than $100/night? We don't need much space, just a bed, a table and a small kitchen. Many thanks.

Susan,

Les Citadines has what you might be looking for: they have several locations in Paris, around $100-120 per night.

ROOMS

The Citadines Les Halles features 189 guestrooms with one double or twin (sofa) beds; rooms can accommodate a maximum of four guests. One-bedroom apartments have a bathroom with a separate toilet. Studio apartments have a bathroom without a separate toilet. Both room types offer a full kitchen.

Try looking for them on line for Paris...

Susan, we stayed in an apartment in Monmartre last January. We had a great experience! Check out Paris Vacation Apartments. The Metro gets you everywhere so quickly. Have fun.

http://www.parisvacationapartments.com

Check out rentparis.com. I rented for a month and their prices are the best I've seen for an apartment or studio. I even got an e-mail from them (didn't keep as I can't use now) showing even better prices for the winter months (not sure thru what month). Anyhow, I thought the managers were great and very responsive. I stayed in the 7th and most of their rentals are in the Marais area but it's certainly worth looking into.

You won't find a hotel with a kitchennete at that rate in the 5th or 6th. St-Germain is one of the most expensive hotel areas of Paris. The Citadines sound like a good idea if you don't want anything but function (not charm) but they are around 200 euro a night for a small studio in the central areas (like St-Germain). They do have some around 100-120 euro in outer areas like Bastille, etc. There is a moderate residence hotel, Henri IV in the 5th with kitchenettes, but it is also about 200 euro per night and another one in St-Germain is a 4-star so I know it won't be $100.

That is about the price of a modest 2-star hotel in those areas with a small room, so you won't get a hotel with kitchenette.

I think the only way to do that is to rent a private apartment and then you won't get much for that rate, but it is possible. If you are staying for long enough and are willing to pay the deposits and prepayments for an apartment. If your only reason for doing this is because you think you'll save money, I'd think about that and be sure to add up all the costs, as you may not save any. At that price, the place may not be as nice as a hotel, although you may see some deals for March.

A private apt. without agency fees would be cheaper, but I'm not sure I'd recommend that to someone who doesn't know Paris well (www.vbro.com has some, though). I think rentparis has some good and reasonable listings, as does www.apartment-living.com, www.paris-sleeps.com, www.aparisianhome.com and www.rentinparis.com.

The latter has a very nice-looking 1 BR apt in the Marais for only about $100, which is rare for that size and appearance (nice kitchen and dining area), but it is a 4th floor walkup (#201). At that price, you may not get an elevator in a central location and a 1 BR, but you may get a studio (which usually will only have a sofabed). Hope you're staying at least a week.
Mike,
I just came back from staying in an apt. in Montmartre rented from parisvacationapartments.com. We stayed in the 1 bedroom Charles Nodier. They are an excellent company to rent from. The apt. was clean and comfortable. They are available for all your needs, suggestions on what to do in Paris, they made taxi and show reservations for us. We were able to call them for any questions or problems we had. You will be very happy with them.
