Kinsale?
 

I need to do some searching of the archives here -- but I was wondering if there were any good/fun recommendations for food/pub/accomodations in Kinsale.

(other than B&Bs, thanks!)

I just came back from 8 days in Kinsale. It's really beautiful. Be prepared for some vigorous walking! I stayed with a friend there, so I can't recommend anything specific, but there's a GREAT fish and chips place right near the bus stop, and on Tuesdays (I think) there is a farmer's market in town with great local food.
FYI, it's only about 35 minute by bus to Cork city, and it's a pleasant ride.

Three pubs we enjoyed: The White House - had great food; and The Mad Monk - lovely ambiance and music in the evenings. And for history and mood try The Spaniard, up on the hill.

i leave for ireland on saturday, but won't be as south as kinsale. please do visit my favorite place in ireland(so far!) and drive to mizen head/crookhaven from kinsale. it's on the southwest point. kinsale is the culinary capital of ireland...you can't go wrong!

Crookhaven is a marvelous place away from the madness. Have a pint at O'Sullivan's and dinner at the Crokkhaven Inn. I'm not a foodie by any means, but I was amazed by the food in this tiny, out of the way place. With any luck, Billy O'Sullivan will be hanging out at the bar and the craic will be mighty. Great fun.

I was in Kinsale last May and also enjoyed The White House pub. I stayed in Kinsale 2 nights and both nights went to the White House. Part of the enjoyment was the entertainment there those nights.

Dessy Walls was playing and he's definitely not the "traditional" music type. He plays mostly his own stuff, but I will warn you, he can be crude, rude and lude at times, but the "craic" was great and there was alot of audience participation. We closed the place the down both nights we were there.

wojazz! i am a foodie and i was atill blown away by the food at o'sullivans. i still talk about it! atlantic seafood chowder, beer, brown bread...yum!

I was only in Kinsale for the afternoon and evening in July 2005, but we went to Muddy Maher's and it was good! Funny menus. Of course, the fact that my last name and the name of the pub/restaurant are the same didn't hurt :)

For lodging I like the Old Presbytery

Thanks very much. With all to see/do in the area, we are currently trying to decide to stay 1 or 2 nights in Kinsale -- to do day-trips or in another town.

We have rented a house in Kinsale for a week in July.. traveling around Ireland our other week..and we would like to hear about fun things to do in Kinsale as well as day trips from there.

We enjoyed Fishy Fishy...excellent food, though a wait for lunch. We did some more exploring, and came back about 3:00 for a wonderful late lunch.

I'd suggest 2 nights in Kinsale...it's a charming place. Take a boat ride, a historical walking tour, check out a few pubs, beautiful area. The Olde Bakery was a most pleasant and convenient B&B.

Two nights in Kinsale, and a stay at the Old Presbytery in town. They have a courtyard to park your car, and you can walk everywhere. Best meals were at Crack Pots, Blue Haven and White House. Check out Kinsale Crystal.

I'd say do two nights in Kinsale for sure. Walking out to Charles Fort is a nice thing to do on a good weather day - just far enough to feel like you're getting some exercise without being too much of a hike!

Scurry, I've been to Kinsale quite a few times and I'd recommend The Trident Hotel right on the waterfront. Excellent location. Has been recently refurbished and it's well worth a visit. For food my favourite restaurant is Hoby's. They have an early bird menu for E25 and it is excellent value. Also their a la carte is extremely good.

Grab a desert at Gina's Cafe. Our stop in, in 2004, is still memorable.

We were in Kinsale last month and loved the Blue Haven Hotel. Rooms aren't big but well outfitted. Wonderful food including the best breakfast we had in Ireland.

From Kinsale you can head east and visit Cobh (pronounced Cove) which has a great museum. It's particularly poignant if any of your ancestors came from Ireland.

Next is Youghal - there is a great beach there and some good shopping and pubs. Great seafood at Aherne's.

A bit further east is our favourite town in southern Ireland, Ardmore. You have to have a pint at Paddy Mac's, enjoy the beach and take the Cliff Walk (the visitor bureau has free pamphlets outlining the walk). Interesting things to see as well as magnificent scenery. Don't miss one of the few remaining Round Towers in Ireland.

Just north of Kinsale is a town called Carrigaline. If you love pottery, there is factory with a shop attached and they have beautiful stuff (called Carrigaline Pottery). Very reasonable and an entire set of Carrigaline ware is one of the best things we ever bought for ourselves. They'll also ship home for you.

If you like gardens, Annes Grove Gardens is just outside Castletownroche(north of Kinsale), very pretty. And, of course, there's Blarney Castle.

We ended up staying 2 nights at the Perryville guest house in Kinsale and one night at the Shelbourne Lodge in Kenmare.

Both were great.

Fishy Fishy was delicious-y as was Toddies (Toadies?) for dinner in Kinsale and Packie's (sp?) in Kenmare. I was disappointed with my dinner at CrackPots in Kinsale.

It rained pretty much the whole time. Had a great walk on Inchedonay beach.
