Kings Cross - left luggage?
 

Oh, helpful folks! <BR> <BR>Does anyone know if it's possible these days to check a suitcase at Kings Cross for a week's time? Either in a locker or at a desk or office? <BR>We're planning to use the Thameslink train from Gatwick and taking GNER to Edinburgh. (A bit of a hike between the two, eh?) <BR>We have ordered the tickets for the train and must pick them up at will-call. <BR>Then...Edinburgh, the festivals, the Tattoo! <BR>We leave in ten days!! <BR> <BR>Thanks for your help!

From the King's Cross page on the Railtrack web-site: <BR> <BR>The Left Luggage and Lost Property office is situated on platform 8. Left luggage charges are £4.00 per item-manual system not lockers. The office is open for luggage deposits and withdrawals between 0730 and 2245 - 7 days a week. Luggage may be searched before being accepted. <BR> <BR>I suppose you could call the 300 metres between the two stations a bit of a hike - pretty flat though, but lots of traffic to watch out for. <BR> <BR>

A few years ago, I left luggage at King's Cross. When I did it, they were asking everyone to open their luggage and they were running a metal detector over everything. Not sure if they still do that, but allow plenty of time. Also it seemed that you had to have a certain amount (in coins) to get the locker open to put the luggage in, so you might want to make sure you have coinage to cover about 5 pounds because I don't think they accept bills.

Last year I used the left luggage office for just a day--don't know about a week, but the system worked well, you take it to the office, hand it over (it goes through a security screener), they barcode it, and keep it back in the room. Worked very smoothly. At 4GBP per day, you may want to consolidate your bags and leave one big one instead of multiple small ones.
