Kindle through security
I received a Kindle 3 for Christmas. Going through security, I assume it will be required to come out of the carry-on, the same as my netbook? Anyone who has done this?
|
I carry my Kindle in my purse or backpack and have never taken it out or have been asked to take it out when going through security.
|
That sounds good. I figured since it has wifi and 3G that it would be treated like a computer. I'm glad I won't have to drag it out too. Some of the TSA agents even make me take my netbook out of the security friendly sleeve.

"Some of the TSA agents" is your operative phrase. What agents in one place will do/allow is no predictor of what they will do/allow anywhere else.

Almost every time I've had my Kindle in my hand baggage I've been asked to take it out (or rather, the agents asked if I had anything electronic in my bag, I replied "e-book reader" and they said it had to come out).
The one time I didn't take it out of my bag before it went through the x-ray machine, they hand-searched my bag, removed the Kindle and scanned it again separately. Also, in theory you should remember to switch off the wi-fi during take-off and landing (though I keep the wi-fi off all the time unless downloading something as it uses up too much battery power). |
Thanks everyone. I figured I would have to send it through like the computer, but I was not sure. I would rather be on the safe side and not slow up the line, so I'll send it through with the netbook.

I have neevr had to take out my Sony eBook Reader nor my iPad when I went through airport security.
|
I've taken many flights with my ereader and never been asked anything about it when going through security.
Sounds like it is just luck of the draw. My husband has been asked before though. |
