Killimer Ferry
We are going to try and drive from Galway to Kenmare in one day. I thought it might be quicker and more interesting to cut through County Clare and take the Killimer Ferry across the Shannon River, then drive straight down to Tralee.

Is this quicker? How many hours do you think it will take to drive from Galway to Kenmare using this route?

Check out time and distance details on a website such as

http://www.shellgeostar.com/share/

Enter starting and ending points for your first try. Then do it again, adding Killimer or Tarbert as a stopover point between the end points.

Compare results.
Take the ferry. It's fun, and you'll love the countryside. From Galway, stop by the Cliffs of Moher on the way down. You may have to wait for the ferry -- not sure how often it runs, but there is a restaurant there. Stop in and have a beer during your wait.

We've taken the ferry on two separate trips. Seemed much faster and was a fun thing to do. There's another ferry that you can take to avoid Cork City.
