Killarney Restaurants???
 

If you had one evening in Killarney, where would you recommend having a memorable (not just expensive) meal. We will be staying at Killarney Court.

Mike...too tired to surf throught the restaurans agin...chek our www.adlib.ie and put in Kerry and Killarney. There are loads and they are all rated. I have not been there for a meal before so I can't comment on any.

I had the misfortune to eat at four different restaurants in Killarney. All were overpriced and none were memorable (or even approaching mediocre).

SiobhanP - Anybody can do a web search to look for restaurants in Killarney. I think what Mike is asking for is a "personal" recommendation -- has anyone been to a particular restaurant in Killarney that they would recommend.

I will be in Killarney in May. I, too, would be interested in personal, firsthand recommendations.

We liked Druids Restaurant inside of the Killarney Avenue Hotel. Servers seem well trained, polite, were very efficient without hanging over you. It doesn't feel particularly touristy. The interior is a little heavy on the dark woods and gilt, but comfortable. We've tried various beef and seafood mains there and had no complaints, some were excellent. I wish I could remember the prices, but I know they are on the upper side of average, not yet to the prices of many restaurants in Dublin.

Killarney town, sadly, has an abundance of forgettable restaurants. But you might want to give Gaby's a whirl. While I've not eaten there, it's significant that it rates a listing in the Bridgestone Guide to the 100 Best Restaurants in Ireland. I've used this annually-published, highly regarded guide during many a visit to Ireland and have found it highly accurate, a terrific resource. Indeed, I wouldn't travel to Eire without it.

We were there in 2002 and had a lovely dinner in a restaurant called Bricin. The service was great (we had a large group) and the food was excellent.

I will agree with the others though - generally speaking, fine or even good dining in Killarney is not as easy as it should be.

I have been in Killarney on severel occasions in summer and I always give myself a treat by having dinner in the Hotel Europe which is situated on the shore of the Lower Lake (Lough Leane) about three miles west of Killarney on the road to Killorglin.Sometimes I have eaten in the restaurant and at other times in the bistro but in every case I get a wonderful view of the mountains across the lake as the sun sets.Dinner at 7 or 8 in May-Aug would be a good time to go.The food is good to excellent and I hope to be back there again in the not too distant future.

Mike, just back from a 10day golf tour in kerry. We ate 5 nights in this restaurant because it was so good. There was 12 of us and we all agreed that is was amazing food, the service was unbelievable and a great ambiance. It's called Treyvauds, and is located on 62 High Street, Killarney. Gaby's is pretty good too, but very expensive, there are one or two to stay clear of, but you'll see that yourself. Anyway, Treyvaud's is a deffo, a bright red & yellow building with a beautiful stone front. Tell Paul (Owner) John O'Conner from New Jersey sent you

Does anyone know how to send this to Fodors, as I noticed there are quite a few restaurants that aren't mentioned on their review. Treyvaud's are there just over a year, which is unbelievable seeing how good it was, and for what you get it is cracking value for money. and there are one or two not mentioned that we found in Kenmare. We had an excellent meal about a week ago at the Bricin in Killarney. Great food, OK service.

MileKing, We must have missed you by a couple of days. We were in Killarney 25-26 May.

Had a great pub dinner at Murphy's - Mrs. Budman had the Irish Stew, and I had the beef & guinness stew. Music followed at 9:30.

Found an Italian restaurant the next night off the beaten path called L'Artesta. It was a bring your own wine and beer. An inexpensive change of pace. ((b))

punto, obviously you don't seem to know the difference between advertising and recommending.

You, as a brand new poster to this forum, post on only three threads -- all for the mere purpose of plugging this restaurant.

To me, that's very suspect to advertising, and I personally wouldn't dare go near the place.

OK eating 5 nights in the same place is a bit silly. We feel you are advertising because you are constantly asking for places to send or plug this reatairant which to be honest is not great value for the country and I am sure the food is great.

Nothing wrong with drumming up business but this site does not allow people to advertise their businesses. It's not the forum for it. Many people here have some travel related business but they do NOT advertise it. It's the only way you can get objective information. Try to understand this, it's not a personal attack but we can't let one person advertise otherwise we would be flooded.

If you are not affiliated with this business tell more about the trip, where you went, stayed, rented a car etc. This will give more credibility to your reccommendations and people would like to know your experiences.

P.S. Budman...did you drink the Budweiser in Ireland? It tastes totally different to me!

It was told it was brewed locally, so I did have to try it -- it was awful. I joked with the bartender, telling him that they forgot to "beachwood age" it. ((b))

I'm from Ireland and I find a lot of Killarney restaurants are overpriced. I like the Lake Hotel restaurant though, the views of the lake are wonderful, the food is nice and after dinner you can take a stroll around the lake, provided its not raining that is!

ok, thanks siobhanp. I'm new to this, but like I said I only said this place because I kept reading people saying there was nowhere decent to eat in Killarney and I disagreed. But we ate there because, actually never mind. I'll tell you about the trip, 12 guys on a golf trip, 6 of us from New Jersey, 4 from London and 2 guys from Dublin. 1 of the guy from NJ was having a stag and worked in london for 2 years and worked with these guys, 1 of which was Irish, hence the whole connection thing. His grandparents are from Kerry, so it was a trip to cover all aspects. When the other guys went home we stayed another week to travel around kerry, galway and fly back out of Shannon. Stayed mainly in the Park hotel in killarney, played all the courses there from Ballybunion, Waterville and Tralee, which we all agreed has the best back 9 we ever played but the city isn't nice. Then played the Ring of Kerry, which the owner of the restaurant which I wont mention again, got us out for free and stayed in a great B&B called the Brass Lantren in Kenmare. Ate in Mulcahys for dinner which was excellent, not advertising Budman, and then listened to a great band in a pub up from the bank, PF (something), drove the Ring of beara for the tourist thing then up to Galway and stayed in a great hotel called the Connemara coast hotel, a bit pricy but ideal for what we wanted. I think I've bored you enough, but it was an intense break. Again, sorry siobhanp, not menat as advertising but budman, you have to admitt that you made a silly remark about food poisoning that sparked me off.

That's what I like to hear. You should of course mention good places, prices etc. but too many people try to "pretend" to be posters here and try to blatently advertise. Glad you had a nice trip and passed some info on...I am a former Jersey girl myself relocated to Dublin good to hear from others. :-)
