Killarney National Park

Please share your experiences in seeing the Park. We should have 1 afternoon (early June)to check it out and plan on spending another day doing the Ring with a two night stay in Kenmare. We plan on then going to Dingle for a two night stay, so we may have some time the a.m. of that drive. Suggestions about the best way to see the Gap of Dunloe, Muckross, lakes would be appreciated.

Killarney National Park has a website at http://homepage.tinet.ie/~knp .It is a really beautiful place which is extremely popular with tourists. You can drive a car as far as Muckross House and see Muckross Lake there. You can use Dero`s Tours (www.deros.com) to go through the Gap of Dunloe and then come down
through the three lakes- a splendid trip on a fine day in a small boat. You can also go in a large boat for a trip on the Lower Lake.

Easiest way to share my experiences is with the links to my journals.

Click on the Kemare or Sneem links. On the 2003 version, click the Dingle link also. It has pics of the Ring as we headed to Dingle.

Thanks to you both. Could either of you tell me about how much time to allot for Muckross House and perhaps a jitney ride from there?

Thanks for the photos, Bill. It brings to mind our own 2001 trip...seeing Dublin, Glendalough, Bunratty. We covered a good deal of historical and literary sites, theatre, and of course pubs with music.

Being in an Elderhostel program for much of the time, we had excellent lecture-tours on places like the Burren, Dublin, Nowith, Cashel, Trim, Tara, etc.

James:

I would say you could get in a jaunting car ride and the Muckross House in a couple of hours. I never actually went into Muckross House. I sort of preferred the great outdoors.

Bill:

Sounds like you had a great trip. I haven't yet made it to Trim. I understand that it is currently undergoing renovations.
