Kilkenny Lodging Recommendations?

Hi,
I'm trying to find lodging in Kilkenny, Ireland for 40 euro per person sharing or less. Any suggestions? I'd prefer to be walking distance to city center, if at all possible.
Thanks!

A lot will depend on what time of year you are heading over. Other than hostels, I am not sure that you wil find much, which is decent, at that price in Kilkenny.

Let us know when you are heading over and we can more readily make suggestions.

Early June of this year. No other city has given me trouble.

What standard of accomodation are you looking for

For €69 euro you can stay in a Days Hotel which is very good for the price ( brekkie included)

Another option is Dalys B&B John Street Kilkenny - very basic but only 35 euro per night room only and bang in the middle of the city centre

I just need clean and safe lodging, with ample parking and I can't pay more than 80 euro per room per night. I will check out your suggestions. Thanks.

Just checked the Days Hotel and it's showing 189 euro a night!!! That's crazy!!

aggiegirl,

Have you tried Lonely Planet ? They have moderate accommodations listed in their books. Maybe their web-site would also.

If you don't mind a hostel, Macgabhainns has a twin ensuite for $25.66 which includes breakfast, http://www.hostelsweb.com/hostelsweb...elNumber=15420.

Hillgrove, http://www.ireland-bnb.net/display.html?id=1588, is a consideration, at 35 euro per night. Pinecrest might be another, http://www.ireland-bnb.net/display.html?id=2676. Cnoc Mhuire, http://www.cnocmhuire.com/, and Celtic House, http://www.bnbireland.net/Kilkenny_CelticHse.htm, would also fall in your budget range.

The first weekend is a Bank Holiday so if that is the weekend you are aiming for, you will have an issue finding lodging for Sunday night. There is also the Comedy Festival occurring which runs through June 4. That could account for your difficulties in finding lodging. You might need to look outside of Kilkenny in one of the surrounding towns.

We stayed at the Park Villa B&B in Kilkenny in February. We had a triple. The room was nice and cozy and the B&B owner, Vicki, was totally sweet. It was about a 15 minute walk to the historic center.

Not sure how many people you need in a room, but doubles are 76 euro.

Hi again,
I've tried Hillside and Pinecrest and they are full. I think I've emailed Park Villa, but will have to double check. Not sure about the other two Bit mentioned. I've emailed so many, my head is swimming! I always have to check my notebook at home to make sure I don't email the same place twice.
I will check out lonely planet too, as recommended. Thanks.

I have plans to stay at Rosquil House for the first time at the end of next month. It is in your price range and has gotten good reviews on tripadvisor. From what I understand it is walkable to city center (10-15minutes), if you havent found anything yet, you might want to try them.

Depends on the night of the week, but Laragh House is E40 per night on weeknights, 50 on weekends. It's a long walk to the city center. Nice place to stay though.

I think I'm going to change my dates for Kilkenny so I can avoid the busy weekend.

That's probably a good idea. We were in Kilkenny on a weekend, arriving on Saturday. It was crowded and busy and that was in February!

I paid 45 euro for a single room last fall at the Bregagh House so I'd guess the per person sharing rate is less than that. I found it to be a very conveniently located hotel and didn't have much trouble finding it. And they have ample parking for guests so it was nice to just leave the car for a couple days. I do have to say that it was my least favorite place on the trip but not because it was a 'bad' place, per say. I just thought it was the most hotel-like place I stayed in--more formal and the least friendly (though please don't read that as rude in any way). I would recommend staying there because of the location and price but I personally wouldn't stay there again unless I really couldn't find anything else. It was clean and quiet and safe and they had a website: www.bregaghhouse.com I believe. And their breakfast was only so-so, I thought. Hope that helps!

I stayed at Fanad House:

I was there for such a short period of time that I can't really comment on service, but the room I stayed in was lovely. It's a ways out of town, but I didn't mind the walk.

By the way - I LOVED Kilkenny and wished I'd had more time there!
