Kildare (Ireland) is it worth staying there?

A group of us are going to the Irish Derby (horseracing) at the Curragh, near Kildare. I was wondering if i could get some feedback on where we should base ourselves for the two nights. What would most people do? Would they commute to Dublin after the races or would they stay in Kildare. Obviously we will be having a drink and would like to kick on and have a couple of big nights. Feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Kildare is a bit nearer the Curragh, than Dublin but it's easily accessible from both places. On big race days specific buses and trains are put on from Dublin, so if transport is an issue then Dublin may be a better option. Kildare is a nice small town that you could easily pass a day in, perhaps visit the Japanese Gardens. It will be busy pub wise during the derby. There is loads to see & do in Dublin for your second day/night.
