Kiev Hotel and Tour Guide

Would appreciate recommendation for an English speaking tour guide in Kiev. Also would appreciate recommendation for nice safe hotel in Kiev for 2 American women traveling alone.

We stayed at the Hotel Kozatsky last spring and thought it was fine. The room was not up to Western standards by any stretch (kind of tired furnishings), but it served its purpose and it was very reasonable. You can't beat the location - overlooking the Maidan (Independence Square). Seemed plenty safe to me (But I'm a guy).

Here are the trip advisor reviews-

Can't help with the guide- my Ukrainian wife got us around.

We stayed at the Ukrainia--a horrble hotel with a great location. (I'm a big believer in "location") There is a new Hyatt (not completed when we were there) that has an excellent location. I would think it would be perfect for 2 women.

Have you given thought to an apartment?

Alexander was great, arranged for airport transport, Boryspil is about 30 minutes outside the city, to the door. The apartment we rented on Vladimirskaya street was next to the Kiev Interpol office. It also had an independent hot water heater.
