Kiel Canal Day trip?

Is it possible to book just a day trip through the Kiel Canal? Am working out our holiday for next Spring, and we have a month in Germany. We've decided to travel by train, and this time , to visit the NW part ,after Berlin. We are fit, but a bicycle trip along the canal is a bit too ambitious for us older Aussies .

On the net, I can only find references as part of a multi-day trip. This does not appeal to DH, but he might agree to a day. Thanks.

I've done on a jam boat, one thought;

the thing is relatively flat and there are electric bikes that might be hireable.

I found these guys, but there maybe others http://www.fahrrad.de/haendler/rad-s...kiel-6907.html

And of course you can catch the train back with the bikes

This is just from the web, so I cannot comment on any of these excursions:

Another company offering canal cruises, but has the website in German only:

When googling for info, keep in mind that no one in Germany calls it the Kiel Canal.
The local name is Nord-Ostsee-Kanal which translates to North- East (Baltic) Sea Canal.

While I find Kiel to be bland and boring (especially when compared with Lübeck which is very scenic/ pittoresque), small town Friedrichstadt (on the North Sea end of the canal) is a cute "Dutch" town with many grachten. Worth a visit when you get into the area anyway, probably not worth a major detour.
