Kids books or movies?
 

Possible trip next year to Paris, Belgium and the Netherlands. Any books or movies that highlight these areas that you would recommend for a young (4 years old) child? I want to start a list of items to start planting the seed of where we're going!

The Cow Who Fell in the Canal by Phyllis Krasilovsky is a childrens book, set in Holland.
My kids loved it, even before we moved here.

Miffy (Nijntje in Dutch) is also Dutch, written by Dick Bruna, who lives in Utrecht. For fans of Miffy there is the Dick Brunahuis in Utrecht - www.dickbrunahuis.com

Madeline--book and movie--there are short cartoon Madeline dvds as well as a full length film with real people in it
Everybody Bonjours
A Spree in Paree--a farmer and his animals visit Paris--cute pictures
Adele and Simon--about a little boy and his sister walking home from school in Paris; he keeps losing his hat, coat, mittens, books, etc.--fun for young children to try to find the lost items in the pictures

Grandmere - is Everybody Bonjours a book? I've been teaching my son a few french words so that sounds perfect!

Also, has anyone taught (or attempted to teach) their young child some of the languages that they would be experiencing on a trip? Are there any good language cds or dvds for young kids? I took French in High School so I'm teaching my son the (few) words I remember!

Well I wouldn't worry about teaching him any Dutch. Young children don't worry too much about understanding each other, and since Dutch children hear English all the time, and are taught it in school from very young most understand quite a bit even if they can't answer in English.
My grandson is not being raised bi-lingually but even at three he will turn round and respond to something said in English - he answers in Dutch but he understands what was said. A problem a his day-care as the staff speak English to each other when they want to say something the kids shouldn't hear. :) They can't use French as they have to bi-lingual French kids there.
