kerouac et al - Paris neighborhood query

We usually stay in one of the central arrondissemetns but the places I like are either unavailable or out of budget for a visit next June. There is a place in the 18th that looks like it may work but I have little experience with the neighborhood. It is on rue Duhesme near the Lamarck-Caulaincourt metro stop. Any insights about the location and neighborhood would be greatly appreciated.

I can't comment on the XVIIIe, but when I was a student I lived in Montparnasse (a couple of blocks from Gaîté station).

I love the XIVe arrondissement for its "small town" feel - more like a village than a city neighborhood, even though one of the busiest train stations in France (Gare Montparnasse) is there.

Seamus you will be quite close to Montmartre in that part of the 18th. The more residential (and imo the more interesting part of the 18th) is west of that. Check out my blog for some insights on the 18th.

The "next journal" link at the bottom describes some of the area.

Yes, robjame, i have already scoured your excellent blog and feel like I had a virtual Paris visit. I have requested the exact street address to better locate the apartment, but think it is in the same general area as the Damrémont apartment.
BTW, do you think that apartment would work for two adults and a teen?

I really like the area around Lamarck-Caulaincourt metro stop -- that IS Montmartre, very much so. However, rue Duhesme extends quite a ways, but if it truly is near Lamarck and not the other end, that's a very good location, I think, as long as you want to be up there.
