Trying to unravel what you want in Kent I looked at your post from last year. Then you were planning to stay in a holiday apartment in good walking country, without telling us where, and you wanted to avoid tourist places as you had seen them all. What you haven't told us is how far you can walk and at what level. I really think you might be better to ask advice on walking on a site which is devoted to walking or get some of the books on walks which have been published. Although Kent may seem small compared with California it does break down into quite distinct zones. It is also densely populated because of its closeness to London so the lovely areas are surrounded by rather dull suburbs.

If your plans have been firmed up then perhaps people could give you more precise advice.

Helen, the OP is long gone - just check his profile and you'll see no further posts since last summer...

oh - couldn't this thread die a dignified death and never again see the light of day! Not just cut/paste/cut/paste/cut/paste - some very self-indulgent codswallop. No mystery who topped it.

Death by a thousand cuts (and pastes).

C W - what is your point? that i should not document my vast knowledge of Kent (did business there for two decades - tour groups and we went everywhere - with links to document.

I really fail to find any reason for you constant paste and cutting crap - so - so what and why not. If you read this you would find lots of personal trip report type things. I guess your sole goal is to destroy if possible my threads - well keep on - it only makes you look like... another slow day at work - wow i'd like to get a princely salary and spend all day on Fodor's! I do envy you pal.

PQ this topic is dead the OP has bin and gorn. Your suggestions that people might mix with the hoi polloi in the Isle of Sheppey etc is interesting for frequent visitors or it might be treated as bringing some levity to the topic.

The advent of the Javelin train is interesting and it would be interesting for Fodorites if you wrote a report on it when you have had a chance to visit and try it out. I think the fares are going to be higher, ie a premium rate for the speed.

I'm planning to take a step back into the past and take the paddle steamer from London to Whitstable and try some oysters. This was the popular route for Londoners going on holiday to places like Margate pre-1939.
