Kalambaka to Meteora-is there public transportation?

We are considering staying at a hotel in Kalambaka but do not know the best way to get to Meteora. Are there buses or best to rent a car?

According to the Lonely Planet guide, there is a bus which picks up in Kalambaka and Kastraki in the morning and returns in the afternoon. Journey about 20mins. There is a tourist office in Kalambaka, the bus stop is at Plateia Dimarchiou for the Grand Meteora Monastery.
We were there in June this year and hired a car. It's very easy to get there by car as the monasteries are connected by road.
