Königsee/Berchtesgaden

Seeking recommendations on hotels or pensions in this area. Preferred lake and mountain view.

Jeanette: We stayed at the Vier Jahrzeiten (Four Seasons) in Berchtesgaden and it was a lovely family-owned place that is centrally located in the heart of town. I don't think there is a bad spot in this town as it is all quite scenic. <BR> <BR>I believe the hotel has a website. Try checking on "Berchtesgaden" and look for a hotel there. You should find it that way. <BR> <BR>Have a good trip!

Jeanette: No personal experiances just yet (will be in area in sept.), but i can point you to good links: <BR>http://www.koenigssee.com/schoenau/english/e_schoen.htm <BR>http://www.berchtesgadener-land.com/home_e.htm <BR>http://www.alpenhof.de/e_index.htm <BR>http://www.koenigssee.com/georgenhof/index_e.htm <BR>http://www.berchtesgaden.com/e/citie...nau/hotels.htm <BR> <BR>One of the above sites has a link where you can request a booklet about the area and Places to stay - It's free and booklet lists (and shows) some really nice places in the area.

I reccommend the Hotel Watzmann in Berchtesgaden. Very nice rustic hotel with huge rooms. Great location for strolling through town at night. Breakfast buffet is huge. Staff is very, very helpful. Price for family of four sharing a huge room was under $100.

Ditto on the Watzmann. Nice place, frendly people. We have stayed there 3 times with 3 other couples and they all liked the place.

Does anyone know how full the hotels in the area are this summer? We'd like to spend a weekend there and I'm wondering if we'll be able to get a room. Also, has anyone hiked around there? Any recommendations? Thanks!

Could you provide a link to Hotel Watzmann? is this it? http://www.bgl-net.de/buisness/watzmann/index.htm

For all... the place is slammed this year, probably thanks to the Passion Play. We started making (or trying to make) reservations in February for late September/early October... wanted specifically farmhouse accommodation (gasthaus/pension type). When we kept striking out on our own, finally went through the tourist bureau at the berchtesgadener-land site noted previously. They got us a great place, but it does cost you a few extra DM for their service phoning around. I strongly recommend trying that first before you spend a lot of time searching (esp. if it involves phone calls/faxes to Germany!). They also send color brochures or other info on all the hotels/gasthauses/pensions in the area, which is useful for the curious among us. This is not to say you won't find rooms on your own, but I'd strongly recommend that you cut to the chadse and let the tourist bureau help. Having said all that, Jeanette, you might want to ask about or look into the Hotel Schiffmeister, located on Konigssee, rooms DM 70-100; Hotel Kohlhiasl-Hoh in Schonau, which sits at the foot of the mountains and has great views and Bavarian folklore evenings, rooms DM 40-55; or Hotel-Pension Alpenhof in Ramsau which is directly above the Hintersee nationalpark, rooms DM 42-58. Also Seehotel Gamsbock, directly on the Hintersee with a lovely terrace, rooms DM 45-70. Good luck, and enjoy... it's my favorite part of Germany for scenery. Feel free to email me if you need other info.

We stayed in Berch. for four nights about 4 weeks ago, planning to do some day trips in the area, but we never left, finding too much to do right there. Sign up at the tourist office a couple of days ahead for the small (max. 12 people)English tour of The Eagle's Nest. Take the boat to the far end of Konigsee and then hike past the second lake to the little farm and get fresh cheese and buttermilk. Take the cable car up to the top of Jenner and hike down. We also took a bus out to the northwest of town and hiked a couple of hours through a beautiful (but popular) gorge to the old "marble mill". Sorry; can't remember the name, but a hotel should be able to help you with that one. Enjoy. Our weather was pretty awful, but we loved it anyway.

I can highly recommend the Hotel Fischer. We stayed there in May and really enjoyed the total experience. They have an indoor pool but we didn't come with the expectations of swimming. Staff very nice and the room comfortable, clean, new and spacious. They also have a website and speak excellent English.
