Just returned from Austria, Bavaria and the Dolomites

Hi all,

My wife and I returned last night from a fabulous trip to Austria, the Dolomites and Bavaria. It's pretty hectic right now and I hope to get a trip report done soon. A short recap... we flew into and out of Munich, stayed in the Zillertal (Austria), Alta Badia (Dolomites), Zell am See and Ramsau (Austria). The weather was great, the food excellent and we met simply the friendliest people all along the way. If interested, for now, we have started posting some photo's on:

There will be more photos (and the report) to come as I find some time.

Super photos, Paul. Did you do much walking on your trip? I am a keen walker but never been to that area - where did you like best?

Hi stevelyon,

Where did we like best? That's a real tough question. The Zillertal was new to us and we were just "blown away" by the stunning scenery of the area. We stayed in a wonderful place called the Gasthaus Bergland in Finkenberg. We were surrounded by towering peaks and views of the town of Mayrhofen and the valley below. The Dolomites are quite unique and amazing in their appearance. Zell am See has the beautiful lake side setting. We rented an electric boat for an hour on the lake which was the "highlight" for us there. Ramsau feels like "home" to us due to the people we stay with (Pension Mayringerlehen) and it's convenient location to so many nice places. Favorite... I'd have to say Ramsau. Finkenberg and the Zillertal are a very close second though.

Zell am See was also on our itinerary this trip. We thought it was gorgeous, our weather was mostly great and we enjoyed our little hotel, the Hotel Eder. We also rented one of the electric boats!

We leave tomorrow to return home. Have been traveling for 3 weeks and I'm pooped! DH took more than 2,000 photos and I took close to 800! It will be awhile before we have them all sorted and labeled so I won't be posting them anytime soon.

Sounds like you had a wonderful time, Paul!

Hi Betty,

We were in Zell am See 9/20 and the morning of 9/21. When were you there?? We were "treated" to a band concert (Strauss, etc.) along the lake the night we were there! The electric boats are teriffic! Hope you had a great trip.

bilocca, we rented a car from Munich airport for our trip.

Paul -- have been enjoying your photographs. Gorgeous! And also liked the older ones of Dinkelsbuhl. I was there in 2006, in the rain, unfortunately. I love the views from outside the wall!

Paul, we just missed you by a few days. We were there on the 15th and 16th! The concert sounds great. David would have loved to have gotten photos of that!

Just got home tonight and couldn't have had a better vacation!

Great photos, Paul. It looks like you met a vintage car rally on the Giau Pass - I'm surprised they made it up there!

Did you manage to take the Sella Pass lift - or any of the others - in the end? Or to visit one of the castles?

Hi Steve,

No, we didn't get over to the Sella Pass or the castles. Unfortunately, my wife hurt her ankle and foot pretty good and we didn't do much walking. We did have a "killer" view of the Dolomites right from our room this time.

The rally was all MG's. Old, newer, in between. A really nice surprise to run across.

I'm working on a trip report, but I'm pretty busy and it's slow going

Paul
