Just out of interest, are any of you coming to Scotland for the Homecoming?

The Homecoming is the mega thingie being run in Scotland all year to celebrate Burns's 250th birthday. There's a gathering and parade at the end of July. I do remember someone asking about accommodation for it months ago.
And if you ARE coming to Scotland this year, did the Homecoming figure in your thinking?

Sheila, I know of a few Canadians of Scots ancestry who are planning on going home for the Homecoming celebrating Robbie's 250th birthday. My grandaughter was born on 25th of January so we have a double celebration

Unfortunately we couldn't make it this year. My husband is a MacPherson so we would have liked to make the gathering. However next year we are coming in April/May. Planning is well underway!

I'll be in Scotland June 17 through 21 and again the next week. I looked for Homecoming events/activities in Inverness, Isle of Skye, and Edinburgh but found very little in the areas I'll be visiting in the time-frames I'll be there. It looks as though much of what appears on the Homecoming Scotland site is usually available at other times but just being showcased this year.

I live here and I already did.
By way of explanation from August to November 2008 I had a VERY busy time in the National cause (Sheila knows exactly what I mean) and in January to help us unwind we had a city break to Chester on the English / Welsh border. On the day that the Year of Homecoming officially started, we came home!
BTW bilboburgler, the next Scottish elections are not until 2011 and after the pasting he got in the European Parliament elections few people expect our dear Scot-Brit Prime Minister to make it to the end of 2009 without calling a UK General Election. The only vote currently pencilled in for 2010 is the Independence referendum - 303 years overdue but no less welcome for that.

We are here now Sheila, but had it planned before we knew anything about the Homecoming business. DH's paternal grandmother was a Burns, so of course we are claiming close kinship with Robbie
Just arrived Edinburgh today, after a week with a car traveling from Keith, to Skye, to Inverary, to Stirling (mistake to spend the night there, should have come to Edinburgh after the Castle) and now here. 1000 miles of Scotland under the tires and nary a scratch, whew!

Sheila,
We have had GREAT fun so far. I thought Scotland would be just like Ireland (sorry) but the scenery was more dramatic- I am embarrassed to admit how many pictures I have taken.
We have really enjoyed the castles, palaces, history, and DH has been in whisky heaven.

Also, Shelia, do you know the name of the restaurant in this picture:

My husband's cousin took that last month, and I believe it is a french place that you can see from Union St. I wanted to go there for some reason.
Thanks!

Yes, Amelie, you should try 210 Bistro in Market Street. V. handy for Torry- not being cheeky but it's en route, and the food is excellent.
I don't know the restaurant in the picture but the street is Correction Wynd
