Nancy-
You can ship wine home depending on whether your state allows it. If you live in California you are out of luck. Check if your state allows you to ship wine from overseas for personal use. I had two cases shipped to Boston by Patriache in Beaune without any problems.

For Nancy - We bought wine as we went along on our travels, kept it in the trunk of our rental car, then bought the packaging (boxes and styrofoam inserts) at a local wine merchant in Beaune. Then we checked it as luggage. No problems at all. We too live in a state where we can't ship it back home so this was our only alternative...and a good thing too or we would have brought back tons more wine!

Also, if anyone has tried kir here in the US and didn't care for it...please do try it in France. I just ordered a kir as an aperitif here in the states and it wasn't quite the same as in France. In France it is made with creme de cassis and Aligote (a white wine which is not widely available here, if at all). The kir I had here was made with creme de cassis and chardonnay...quite different in taste and not the same flavor!

For Ying-Ling - We had the concierge at our hotel make the TGV reservations for us. It seemed much simpler than booking online from home, which I found to be a bit confusing. We traveled on one weekend day and it was quite busy, so please do make reservations ahead of time if possible to make sure you have seats.

Enjoy!
topping for those on this board who have asked questions about Beaune recently.

Will be leaving for Paris, Provence and Beaune/Dijon area end of June. Loved all the comments from your message board! Planning to drop our car off in Dijon and take rail back to CDG airport to go home. (We want to avoid the Paris driving) Having difficulty finding train time other than leaving Dijon at 6:30 AM. Our flight from Paris to USA doesn't leave until 2:00 PM Any suggestions from anyone?

How was your hotel? Price? Would you recommend it? Is the proper name the "Millenium Opera"? Thanks!
