Just for laughs

I nicked this from a French board I lurk on. I have seen it before. I hope it wasn't here:)

How many forum members does it takes to change a light bulb?

1 to change the light bulb and to post that the light bulb has been changed
14 to share similar experiences of changing light bulbs and how the light bulb could have been changed differently
7 to caution about the dangers of changing light bulbs
1 to move it to the Lighting section
2 to argue then move it to the Electricals section
7 to point out spelling/grammar errors in posts about changing light bulbs
5 to flame the spell checkers
3 to correct spelling/grammar flames
6 to argue over whether it's "lightbulb" or "light bulb" ... another 6 to condemn those 6 as stupid
2 industry professionals to inform the group that the proper term is "lamp"
15 know-it-alls who claim they were in the industry, and that "light bulb" is perfectly correct
19 to post that this forum is not about light bulbs and to please take this discussion to a lightbulb forum
11 to defend the posting to this forum saying that we all use light bulbs and therefore the posts are relevant to this forum
36 to debate which method of changing light bulbs is superior, where to buy the best light bulbs, what brand of light bulbs work best for this technique and what brands are faulty
7 to post URL's where one can see examples of different light bulbs
4 to post that the URL's were posted incorrectly and then post the corrected URL's
3 to post about links they found from the URL's that are relevant to this group which makes light bulbs relevant to this group
13 to link all posts to date, quote them in their entirety including all headers and signatures, and add "Me too"
5 to post to the group that they will no longer post because they cannot handle the light bulb controversy
4 to say "didn't we go through this already a short time ago?"
13 to say "do a Google search on light bulbs before posting questions about light bulbs"
1 forum lurker to respond to the original post 6 months from now and start it all over again

I think that is really funny, also. I think it is educational, actually, because it makes you realize that certain forum or message board behavior is universal, and it can make you take it a little less seriously.

That joke was actually posted on Fodors some time ago (maybe a year or two), that's where I first saw it.

Love it!!!

rex Mar 13th, 2004 11:24 AM

Hopefully, there would be a few posts eventually on planning a light bulb GTG, followed by fifty or more on debating the pros and cons of where nd when (and which places to avoid, because some one saw a burnt out light bulb there once).

Best wishes,

Rex

Oh Sheila, you mean other forums are just like OURS? :-((

mclaurie Mar 13th, 2004 12:07 PM

And let's not forget at least 7 posters to debate what color bulb (pink is so much more flattering) ;;)

Marilyn Mar 13th, 2004 12:49 PM

How about the 58 posters to discuss what to wear while changing the bulb?

kismetchimera Mar 13th, 2004 12:51 PM

Thanks sheila.., today is cold and raining here in Texas ..I needed a little laugh..
Grazie, merci..:)

SeaUrchin Mar 13th, 2004 01:07 PM

Marilyn, may I wear my jogging suit to climb the ladder to change the bulb?

Marilyn Mar 13th, 2004 01:17 PM

SeaUrchin, don't you know that nobody who is anybody wears a jogging suit to change a light bulb? (Unless, of course, you have properly accessorized it with a Hermes scarf, a pashmina wrap, or a knock-off Prada backpack). Really, I don't know what the world is coming to. I think you should start a separate thread on the subject.

SalB Mar 13th, 2004 03:00 PM

Surely there should be at least 25 people to post "trip" reports about their changing of the bulb . . .

Marilyn Mar 13th, 2004 03:05 PM

and 7 more to tell them that they missed the whole meaning of changing the bulb, not to mention the most wonderful little ristorante en route.

jody Mar 13th, 2004 03:07 PM

I vote this the "Best Thread of the week" !!

cigalechanta Mar 13th, 2004 03:11 PM

Sea Urchin can wear her jogging suit as long as it's pink.
Hi Sheila!

There are far too bulbchangers already and frankly, I'd just prefer NOT to be seen as some styleless bulb changer.

Therefore - I am the bulb. See the bulb... be the bulb...

Marilyn Mar 13th, 2004 03:33 PM

Where can I go to change a lightbulb where there won't be a lot of other lightbulb changers?

easytraveler Mar 13th, 2004 04:00 PM

You people are hilarious!

After another bone-tiring day, what fun to come to this thread! LOL!

chardonnay Mar 13th, 2004 04:17 PM

I would rather sit in the dark than to go where all of you bulb changers congregrate year after year and ruin it for the rest of us.

_jinx_ Mar 13th, 2004 04:24 PM

3 to share their all-time favorite light bulb stories!

I'm going to London on Tuesday. Will my light bulbs work there?
